The Discrimination and National Security Initiative is a non-profit organization dedicated to examining the mistreatment of minority communities in times of war or national emergency, including and especially the backlash against Muslims and those perceived to be Muslim in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. DNSI pays particular attention to the human consequences of such mistreatment. In furtherance of its objective, DNSI engages in three overlapping projects: academic research and appellate litigation, development of educational and media materials, and news gathering.
