In spring of 2001 a little red bundle of energy called Phoebe joined
our household. Though rambunctious, bold and insatiably curious,
she also is very sensitive. Her bonding with Bergen was immediate.
In establishing a relationship with the four cats she instinctively knew
Brat-cat Grendl would be her feline playmate, while old-man Knuckles
needed to be greeted with respectful gentleness. Though she usually
curls up with Bergen for a nap, it is not unusual to find her laying in
a sunny spot with one or more of the cats. Phoebe is always ready
to play, whether it is a game of tag with Grendl, chase with Bergen or
fetch with her humans.
Phoebe quickly learned what was required in the conformation ring, but
the high point of every show is visiting with the spectators. She
especially delights in being petted and hugged by children, returning their
attention with a little "kiss" on the nose. Even with limited showing,
often with sparse competition, Phoebe found herself ranked in the top 25
Pharaoh Hounds and received an invitation to compete in the 2002 AKC National
Invitational. If Phoebe continues to perform as she has, both in
the ring and on the field, we foresee a Dual Champion in our household
in the not too distant future.
Phoebe must have been born on the run. From puppyhood on she sprints
from place to place in the yard and thundering up and down the stairs is
a fun game. Phoebe is in her element on the coursing field, earning
her Field Championship in a matter of months. She wows the crowd with her
incredible agility and has proven she can keep pace with even the Greyhounds
and Whippets. It is her unbounded enthusiasm at the line that gave
her the nickname "wild child." Like her litter mates, Phoebe added
Best in Field to her coursing accomplishments and she did herself proud
by taking Best of Breed at the Region 6 Invitational. Having achieved
so much in so short a time it will be exciting to watch Phoebe as she races
towards her LCM.
