Karloff became part of our lives March 20, 2003, the last born of Bergen's six puppies.  Because more than eight hours had elapsed since the birth of his brother, the vet believed he was dead in his mother's womb and plans were being made for a cesarean.  "Miracle Boy" was almost blonde at birth and was by far the smallest in the litter.  He grew rapidly during the first weeks, catching up to and then surpassing his sisters and one of his brothers in both size and weight.  His delayed entry into the world somehow marked him as different.

As weeks passed the difference between Karloff and his litter mates became more pronounced.  He became "The Watcher"; closely observing our every move when we were near the whelping box.  He watched his brothers and sister rough-housing, choosing just the right moment to enter the fray.  As we watched Karloff watching us and combined with his miraculous birth, we knew he was destined to be our pick puppy.

Now that Karloff is starting his road to maturity it is becoming apparent that he is going to be a combination of the best physical characteristics of his parents.  He is developing the front end of his mother Bergen as well as her long whip tail and large ears.  Karloff is going to have the strong body of Hunter coupled with his father's masculine face.  He has the keen intelligence of both parents and is quick to learn.  An outgoing, friendly puppy, he is none-the-less his mother's son and can be as hard-headed as she was at this age.

The strong hunting instinct of the Jericho Pharaohs is most definately part of Karloff's character.  Nothing delights him more than coursing practice in the yard and he already figured out ways to "cheat' to catch the lure.  We anxiously await the time that he is old enought to be tested on the field.
