Ibanez RG470 FM

Pros: Versatile, slim neck, 24 frets, lightweight
Cons: Pickups aren't stellar
The Bottom Line: Excellent guitar if used, still an alright guitar if purchased new.

This is the mid range RG model Ibanez makes. It is very much similar to the 570 model, except for the tremolo. The 470 has a "Lo Pro" type trem, and the 570 has an "Edge" type trem. Although the Edge tremolo is better, the Lo Pro isn't too bad. Actually, it's a nice low profile bridge that stays in tune pretty well and since it's a low profile type bridge, it stays out of the way when doing palm mutes. Before buying a guitar with a floyd rose, remember it is very confusing for a beginner. When you try tuning a string, the others may go flat or sharp. That is because of the uneven tension on one string, forcing the other strings to pull the floating trem or sink the trem into the cavity. You will understand once you try tuning one.

These come with V series pickups in a HSH (Humbucker/Single Coil/Humbucker) configuration. They have a mild output, which is ok for blues and jazz. I prefer rock, so those stock pickups didn't cut it. I changed them to Seymour Duncans. The tuners are generic, but it doesn't matter because the guitar has a locking nut at the headstock, and it stays in tune very well because of that.

I love the slim neck of this guitar. Those with large ape hands may dislike it, but I think it feels like butter. I can move quickly up and down the neck with ease, playing faster. The action was low when I purchased it, and now it's even lower. With the lower action, I feel that it is easier to press a string down.
As far as quality and construction goes, this axe hasn't fallen apart...or even come close. It is built solid to withstand gigging. The basswood body however, is kinda soft and dents pretty easily. I don't mind that, since I don't abuse my guitars. Soundwise, basswood has a nice, warm tone.
Since I changed the pickups, this axe has been a mainstay in my arsenal. It is extremely versatile, so I don't have to switch guitars during play. However, the price of this guitar new is too much. I would advise to buy it used off ebay or your local shop for the best deal.
