My papaw (Dan Lambert) is my hero. He rode
his bike across the United States last May. He is a very kind Christian
man. My papaw likes to make things out of wood. He has made
Grandfather clocks, rocking horses, and many other neat things. He
is very active and is running the Mini Marathon this year. I have
run with him for the past three years.
His sister (Jane Lambert) died from cancer on May
2, 2000. Papaw wanted to do something to help the Cancer Society.
So my grandma and papaw drove to San Diego in their motor home. My
Grandma drove the motor home and Papaw rode his bike across the U.S.
They received about $10,000 in donations by the time they got back home.
Every penny of it went to the Cancer Society. They didn’t use any
of it to help them with the trip.
My family and I met them in Florida over Spring
Break. Papaw rode through rain, hail, sleet, and snow so he could
stay on schedule. We rode our bikes the last 350 miles of the trip
with him. We finished in St. Augustine, Florida.
