Some time after their marriage, Catherine and Joseph moved to Heron Lake, Minnesota, where he eventually died, and probably her as well. The Klinkhammer children's names and ages are known from probate documents of the estate of Balthazar and Maria. Those documents put the children in Heron Lake, Minnesota. The Klinkhammer children are named as heirs of Balthazar and Maria, but their parents aren't named. I had suspected it was Catherine who married a Klinkhammer, but died before Maria. This is born out by a Klinkhammer family researcher, Carol Klinkhammer, who confirmed Catherine's name and supplied Joseph's first name and a few other details.
Heron Lake is in Jackson Co. The 1900 census shows that Catherine must have died before 1895 and Joseph remarried to a woman named Hilda. Joseph Klinkheimer is in Weimar, Jackson Co., Minnesota with wife Hilda and his children John, Herman Joseph and Mary. Joseph and Hilda have been married 5 years and Hilda's census entry says she has zero children. Mary, the youngest daughter, was born in June of 1891 in Iowa.
The 1920 census, Weimar, Jackson Co., MN also shows Herman Klinkhammer, a farmer, 32, born Iowa, and his sister Mary, 28, born Iowa, and their uncle Anthony, 47, born in Wisconsin. Their step-mother, Hilda, is a widow, living in Heron Lake, age 65. (Hilda was born in August, 1851, according to the 1900 census).
The 1900 census index for Jackson Co., MN (e.d. 100, p. 11, line. 30) has ``Antey'' Klinkhammer, age 28 , b. March 1872, Iowa, with his brother Henry, 35, b. May 1865, Wisc. and Henry's wife and 5 children (none of the names of Maria Nicklaus' heirs, though). Carol Klinkhammer also confirmed that Henry and Anthony were Joseph's brothers.
