Mrs. George Nicklaus, nee Elizabeth Tiediken was born in Leer East Friesland, Germany, Des. 12, 1877, the daughter of Anna and Casper Tiediken. As a small child she was brought to this country by her parents and from then on spent the rest of her life in this community. On May 3, 1899, she was married to George Nicklaus by father John Molloy in St. Patrick's church, Parkersburg. After farming a few years they moved to Parkersburg over 50 years ago and her home has been here until her death, Nov. 9, 1958. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1936 and daughter Anna in June of this year; also by five brothers and one sister. Mrs. Nicklaus was the good old time neighbor, generous with her time and efforts for her family and friends; devoted in her faith; devoted to and a tireless worker for her church. Parkersburg, Iowa Eclipse and New Hartford Journal Thursday, April 12, 1900 Geo. Nicklaus and his wife were called upon to part with their three weeks old baby, which died Tuesday of this week. Mrs. Nicklaus at the present time is very ill. Parkersburg, Iowa Eclipse and New Hartford Journal Thursday, April 19, 1900 The type made us say last week that Geo. Nicklaus baby was three weeks old at the time of its death. This an error, the child not being alive at its birth. [The first article not only makes it sound as though the child lived to the age of three weeks, but also makes it sound as though the child died on Tuesday, April 10, 1900. This is incorrect, as the child was stillborn on Monday, April 2, 1900.] Butler County, Iowa Record of Deaths No. 5, years 1941-1960 Page 369 Elizabeth Nicklaus died at Parkersburg on November 9, 1958 female, white, widowed born Dec. 12, 1877, age 80 housewife, born in Germany father: Caspen Tiedeken mother: Anna Bruggemann cause of death: arteriosclerosis - coronary physician: Floyd O.
