"Smokey" Nicklaus (1929-2008) PARKERSBURG- Marlyn A. "Smokey" Nicklaus, 78, of Parkersburg, died Monday, Feb. 4, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly. He was born Dec. 20, 1929, in Parkersburg, son of Peter E. and Etta (Van Ellen) Nicklaus. He married Laura Rose Bisterfelt on Aug. 16, 1958 in Cedar Falls. Mr. Nicklaus attended Monroe rural school and Parkersburg High School. He farmed in the area, retiring in 1995. He served in active duty in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include: his wife, Laura of Parkersburg; a daughter, Kelli (Quentin) Ciccone of Honolulu, HI; two grandchildren, Marcia Ciccone of Los Angeles, CA and Tyler Ciccone of Honolulu, HI; a brother, Bernard Nicklaus of Parkersburg; and two sisters, Marjorie (George) Oldenberger and Bernita Nicklaus, all of Parkersburg. Preceded in death by: his parents. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Bartels Lutheran Home Chapel, with private burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Richardson Funeral Home. Memorials: may be directed to the family to be used for Alzheimer’s research.
