Rasmussen and Justin Nicklaus Married July 5th St. Patrick's Catholic Church at Parkersburg was the scene of the wedding of Karen Rasmussen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.A. (Happy) Rasmussen, New Hartford, to Mr. Justin Nicklaus, son of Mr. and Mrs. P.B. Nicklaus, Parkersburg. They were united in marriage in a double ring Nuptial Mass on July 5, at 9:30 A.M., the Reverend Father Carl J. Ruhland officiating. The bride wore a waltz length two-piece gown fashioned of French chantilly type lace over taffeta with the neck line and cumberbund studded with seed pearls. Her shoulder length veil was of silk illusion caught to a hat of lace and rhinestones. She carried pink sweetheart roses on her lace covered prayerbook. The bride's attire and prayerbook cover were made by her mother. Mrs. Roy Rewerts, sister of the groom, of Dike was matron of honor and Terry Rewerts, neice of the groom, served as flower girl. They wore street length dresses of nylon and acetate lace over nile green and lavender, respectively. The matron of honor wore a white picture hat and carried a nosegay of pink carnations, and the flower girl wore a head bank of white flowers and carried pink roses in a lavender basket. The groom was attended by his brother, Gerard, of Melbourne. The mother of the bride chose a navy blue lace dress with navy and white accessories and the groom's mother was attired in a beige nylon dress with white accessories. They wore identical corsages of pink carnations. The reception was held from 2 to 4 in the afternoon in the church hall. Mrs. Eldon Johnson, Cedar Falls, was in charge of the guest book. Mrs. Roy Martin, Cedar Falls, and Mrs. Henry Rasmussen, New Hartford, aunts of the bride, poured. Mrs. Fred Nicklaus, aunt of the groom, cut the four tiered wedding cake, which was made and decorated by the bride's mother. Mrs. Elmore Fraser, Arkansas City, Kansas, and Mrs. John Escher, Parkersburg, cousins of the bride, were waitresses of the bride's table. Mrs. Gaylen Rasmussen, Waterloo, and Mrs. Gerard Nicklaus, Melbourne, sisters-in-law of the bride and groom respectively, and Audrey Nabor, New Hartford, were in charge of the gift table. Mrs. C.C. Meyer, Waterloo, Mrs. Burdette Haack, Parkersburg, aunts of the bride, and Mrs. Hugh Scallon, Ackley, and Mrs. Carl Hoffman, Parkersburg, aunts of the groom, were hostesses. The couple will reside in Parkersburg where the groom is employed by the Arends Manufacturing Company. Parkersburg, Iowa Eclipse Thursday, July 17, 1958 Hostesses at a kitchen shower for Mrs. Justin Nicklaus last Wednesday evening on the lawn of the Burdette Haack home, were her cousins Mrs. E.S. Fraser of Arkansas City, Kansas, and Mrs. Johnny Escher of Aplington. The thirty friends and relatives came from New Hartford, Waterloo, Arkansas City, Kansas, Aplington, and Parkersburg. The bride's wedding colors, lavender and green, were used in decorating the refreshment table and selecting the lunch menu. Rasmussen and Mr. and Mrs. Justin Nicklaus, all of New Hartford, and Mr. and Mrs. Gaylen Rasmussen of Waterloo, were callers in the Burdette Haack home Friday night where they visited with the E.S. Fraser family, who are house guests in the Haack home. Parkersburg, Iowa Eclipse Wednesday, September 20, 1995 Page 9 Hazel Rasmussen Hazel C. Rasmussen, 82, of Windsor Care Center, Cedar Falls, Iowa, and formerly of New Hartford, Iowa, died of natural causes Sunday, September 17, 1995 at the nursing home. She was born September 24, 1912 in rural Grundy County, the daughter of Fred M. and Mabel A. (Jepperson) Hersey. She graduated from the New Hartford Consolidated School in 1929, and went on to Gates Business College, graduating in 1930. On October 14, 1931 Hazel was united in marriage to Rasmus A. "Happy" Rasmussen in Waterloo. The couple made their home in New Hartford, where they operated Happy's Grocery for a time, and later Happy's Skelly Station. Hazel was a member of the New Hartford First Baptist Church. She was a very active member of the New Hartford Geyer-Bickner American Legion Post #660 Auxiliary for many years, serving in many different positions, including several years as poppy chairman. She was active in community service her entire life, especially "keeping small fry and their dads and granddads supplied with nightcrawlers." Hazel is survived by one son and his wife Gaylon A. and Janice C. Rasmussen of Waterloo; one daughter and her husband Karen A. and Justin G. Nicklaus of New Hartford; three grandchildren: Allen J. Nicklaus, Cynthia Becker, and Anastasia Nicklaus; three great-grandchildren Stephanie and Scott Becker, and Katherine Nicklaus; and one sister Thelma Haack of Parkersburg, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Happy in 1977; two brothers, Chalmer and John Hersey; and one sister, Viola Meyer. Funeral services are Wednesday, September 20, 1995 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in New Hartford, with Pastor Paul McDowell officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in New Hartford. Memorials may be directed to the family. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Cedar Falls was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
