Cramer Sr. Dies Suddenly ----------------------------------- Death comes as great shock to members of family and the community. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- A feeling of genuine regret was expressed Tuesday morning when the news spread around town of the death of Mrs. Thole Cramer Sr. For several years the deceased had been afflicted with diabetes but had been able to be up and around and was as well as usual Monday and had been talking to members of the family when she was suddenly taken ill and passed away at about 11 o'clock Monday evening. Mrs. Cramer was a mother whose whole life was bound up in the welfare of her family. Although a home loving woman, she took part in various community activities, and to know her was to admire and love her for she was always charitable of the faults of others and found pleasure in doing the things that brought comfort and pleasure to others. For over fifty years she had been a resident of this community and her death has caused genuine mourning in her passing. Obituary Anna Marie Nicklaus was born at Galena, Illinois, November 5, 1868, and when but a young girl came to Butler County. Here she married Thole Cramer Sr. on January 2, 1888. To this union were born nine children, one of whom passed away in infancy, and eight surviving the mother: Charles, Margaret, Thole Jr., Ann and Henry of Parkersburg, Mrs. Mary Mantz and Mrs. Paul Schneckenberger of Waterloo, and Joseph, of Watertown, S.S., besides other relatives and many friends. It is thought that the funeral will be held from the home on Thursday afternoon of his week and interment will be made in Oak Hill Cemetery. Parkersburg, Iowa Eclipse (front page) Thursday, January 30, 1930 Obituary of Mrs. Thole Cramer Sr. ----------------------------------- Anna Marie Nicklaus was born near Galena, Ill., November 5, 1868, and passed away at her home in Parkersburg, Iowa, January 20, 1930, at the age of 61 years, 2 months, and 15 days. While still a child, she came with her parents to Butler County, Iowa, and settled on a farm in Monroe Township, 4 1/2 miles northwest of Parkersburg. She was united in marriage with Thole Cramer on January 2, 1888. Mr. and Mrs. Cramer began housekeeping on a farm near Mrs. Cramer's home before her marriage, and they continued to reside there until about 17 years ago, when they moved into Parkersburg, where they have continued to live since that time. Mr. and Mrs. Cramer became the parents of five sons and four daughters, of whom one son died in infancy. Together with the bereaved husband and father, the children who survive to mourn the loss of the deceased are Charles, Thole Jr., Henry and Anna of Parkersburg; Margaret Cramer, Mrs. Mary Mantz and Mrs. Rena Sneckenberger of Waterloo, Iowa; and Joseph of Arlington, S.D.; four granddaughters, Mina May and Marjorie Cramer, Luanne Sneckenberger and Jo Ann Cramer, and two brothers, Peter Nicklaus and George Nicklaus, both of Parkersburg. Although Mrs. Cramer had not been in the best of health for some time, she was not at all seriously ill and the sudden stroke which caused her death in less than an hour from its inception came as a terrible shock to all those who knew and loved her. Mrs. Cramer was a woman who found her mission in life in the home and gave herself unstintedly to the ministrations of a wife and mother, sparing herself no toil or sacrifice that would contribute to the comfort of her family. She deeply loved her husband and children and in turn was deeply beloved by them. She was a kind neighbor, willing to help when need arose. She was very fond of little children, and they found pleasure in her company. Her kindly disposition won for her a large circle of friends, who deeply deplore her passing, and who will long cherish the memory of her friendship. They and all who mourn her loss can find comfort in the thought expressed by the poet: "There is a land where beauty cannot fade, Nor sorrow dim the eye, Where true love shall not droop, nor be dismayed, And none shall ever die." A large concourse of people gathered at the funeral service which was conducted from the home and the Congregational church by Rev. B.W. Northrop assisted by Rev. J.A. Caskey, and burial was in the Oak Hill cemetery on Thursday afternoon, January 23, 1930. Mrs. Henry Dirks and Mrs. William Kruse sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," "Jesus is all the World to Me," and "My Father Knows." Mrs. William Price presided at the piano. A wonderful display of floral offerings bespeak the estimation in which she was held by her friends and relatives. A good woman has entered into rest, her family has the sweet memory of a kind and loving wife and mother, those who esteemed her as a friend and neighbor are saddened because of her departure, her husband praiseth her; her children rise up and call her blessed. Parkersburg, Iowa Eclipse Thursday, January 30, 1930 Card of Thanks We wish to express our deep appreciation of the many acts of kindness in our bereavement, and for the many beautiful floral offerings which told us of the love and admiration of the many kind friends.
