Framing
Close-up of framing amidships. The ship was lightly built, to minimize its weight, so was prone to hogging. To prevent hogging there were three keelsons. The center one will have a bulkhead which reached up to the deck beams. The outer keelsons also had a bulkhead sitting on them as well as a system of beams and cables which lifted the portion of the hull under the engines and boilers and forced down the portions of the hull between the heavy equipment. These beams and cables also took the weight of the paddle wheel at the stern. Notice how the floor timbers were joined to the side timbers. This was normal in these ships. The blocks between the timbers are there to hold the frames in place until planking is installed. The blocks will be removed.
