Vote - November 6, 2007 for Deborah Nee for Commissioner of the Revenue

I am running as an independent candidate on November 6, 2007 for the office of Commissioner of the Revenue.

With 8 years of experience working in the Commissioners office, and currently serving as the Interim Commissioner of the Revenue, I am the more qualified candidate for this position.

The Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue is responsible for effectively generating revenue for the County. This responsibility includes fairly and accurately assessing not only County real estate (including new construction completed during the year), but personal and business property as well. During a General Reassessment this office assists the assessor hired by the county. Public Utility (real and personal) is assessed by the State Corporation Commission.

The office prepares the County real estate and personal property books (for public use); records real estate transfers (including wills probated); continually updates the County real estate maps; and administers the real estate tax relief program for the elderly and disabled.

Throughout the year office staff continually surveys the county to identify new sources of personal and business property revenue as they become available.

The office also serves the Commonwealth of Virginia by completing, reviewing and processing state income and estimated taxes. We are often the front line in assisting taxpayers with State and Federal income tax forms and questions on potential tax liabilities.

I am confident that I have the training, knowledge and understanding of the responsibilities, procedures and practices of this office to perform the duties of the Commissioner and to continue to properly serve the citizens of Surry County.

I am committed to maintaining the open door policy to which citizens have now been accustomed to expect. I believe that citizens have the right to expect courteous and competent customer service from the Commissioner's Office. To this end, employees in this office are cross-trained to assist other employees in the performance of their duties in order to quickly and effectively serve all citizens.

The practices and policies now in effect within the Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue have proven to be effective in serving the needs of the citizens of Surry County. I pledge to not only continue these practices and policies, but to also improve upon them as well.

I would sincerely appreciate your vote and support on November 6, 2007.

A VOTE FOR NEE will help assure the citizens of Surry County that the Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue will continue to be managed by employees totally dedicated to providing only the highest level of quality service.
