Upon acceptance into the Basic Officer Course you will be appointed as an Officer Cadet, however you require the following for consideration:
- Unit CO / Department Head recommendation
- Must be a Corporal or higher
- Must have held a position
Course Material
As an officer your primary responsibility is to support the members of the Canadian Forces, thus support roles is what the primary focus of this course is.
An officer must be familiar with all legal material, administration documents, courses, and qualifications available in order to be able to provide this information when asked by any member without delay.
Chapter One - Justice
As an officer among your possible roles is that of a defense attorney. When a member of the Canadian Forces is charged with an offense they have the choice of any officer in the Canadian Forces to defend them providing there is no conflict of interest. You must therefore be aware of the laws, procedures and regulations that govern the Canadian Forces in order to serve effectively as an officer.
Assignment 1 - Create a new offense that doesn't yet exist, including what that offense entails and what punishment would be appropriate for the offense.
Chapter Two - Administration
Basically what you need to know here is what all the medals are and what they are awarded for. As an officer you may be in a position to award or recommend the the awarding of a medal. You need to understand what the medals are for in order to do this.
Assignment 2 - Having reviewed the already existing medals, come up with a new medal and create a description explaining what the medal would be used for.
Chapter Three - Training
As an officer you will have soldiers come to you regularily with questions about things such as their Sergeant Qualification. Its your job to know the answers to their questions.
Assignment 3 - If not already completed, submit your Sergeants Qualification.
Final Exam
Write a report detailing why you would be a good officer. You will be marked on effort and creativity.
