On a bloody battle field dwarves are losing lots of their warriors as an inumerable amount of orcs, goblins and ogres engage them in battle. The battle seems hopeless. The dwarves are outnumbered four to one. Their enemies simply walk over their dead and continue to assault them. All seems lost as dwarf after dwarf falls due to the sheer number of enemies advancing. A group of voices pierces the sounds of battle. Dwarves wearing visciously spiked armor and screaming the name of Moradin charge into the thrall. A goblin is crushed as two dwarves slam it between their deadly armor. A ogre falls grasping at a now useless leg that had an encounter with the spiked armor. Orcs are impaled and thrown back into each other. An orc blows a horn, calling back his warriors so he may better prepare them for this strange turn of events. The dwarves let out a loud cheer, the Gutbusters have arrived! Gutbusters are dwarven fighters who have trained themselves to use their armor as a formidable weapons as well as their defense. They have a bloodlust in battle that only a barbarian could truely understand. They are extremely loud, headstrong, and vulger (even amongst dwarves). They will charge into battle to defend their charges to the death, even if the chance of survival is bleak. Though they charge into battle against odds that would make most veteran warriors shudder they are not suicidal. They believe that if they can hold back the enemy for even a few moments something will work out to their favor, and it usually does. Alignment: Any Chaotic Race: Dwarf Hit Die: d10
Class Skills: The Gutbusters Class Skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Climb (Str), Craft (Int), Handle Animal (Cha), Intimidate (Cha), Jump (Str), Ride (Dex), and Swim (Str) Skill Points at 1st level: (2 + Int Modifier) x 4 Skill Points at each additional level: 2 + Int Modifier
Class Features All of the following are class features of the Dwarven Gutbuster. Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Proficient with all simple and martial weapons and all armor (heavy, medium, light) and all shields (even tower shields). Power Attack: Gutbusters gain the Power Attack feat at 1st level. Gutbuster Charge: If a gutbuster makes a successful Bull Rush his spiked armor inflicts damage based on his level. At 1st level it is +1d6 dmg. This damage increases as the Gutbuster gains experience in using armor as a weapon. The damage increases by +1d6 at 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 11th, 13th, 15th, 17th, and 19th level. Safe Fall: At 1st level the Gutbuster gains the ability to safe fall from short distances (10ft) meaning he does not take the normal damage for falling that distance but he is prone until he has a chance to get back to his feet.. The height he can fall safely from increases to 20 ft (10th Level) and 30 ft (20th Level). Intimidating Armor: At 2nd level a Gutbuster gains a bonus to Intimidate checks whenever he is wearing his trademark spiked armor. The bonus is equal to half his Gutbuster level rounded down. This bonus is only applied when he wears spiked armor. Improved Bullrush: Gutbusters gain the Improved Bullrush feat at 5th level. Restful Armor: At 6th level a Gutbuster can sleep in armor with an armor check penalty of up to -6 without being fatigued when he wakes up. Gutbuster Plunge: a Gutbuster of 8th level or higher may also make an attack roll to land on an opponent while jumping or safe-falling. -1 to attack per 5 ft he falls. If his attack is successful he deals damage from his Gutbuster Charge ability. He may also try to land on multiple opponents. In this case he makes an attack roll against all opponents within 5 ft of where he will land taking the same -1 penalty per 5 ft he falls. He then divides up his Gutbuster Charge damage however he sees fit amongst the opponents he hit. IE: an 8th level Gutbuster successfully lands on two enemies. He decides to divide his Gutbuster Charge dmg as follows. 3d6 to orc A, and 1d6 dmg to orc B. Any enemies who take dmg from a falling Gutbuster are knocked prone (the Gutbuster is knocked prone as well). Improved Overrun: Gutbusters gain the Improved Overrun feat at 9th level. Improved Sunder: Gutbusters gain the Improved Sunder feat at 15th level. Improved Shield Bash: Gutbusters gain the Improved Shield Bash feat at 20th level.

Gutbusters first appeared in R.A. Savatore novels. They can be seein in the Hunters Blades Trilogy. I cannot remember if they appeared before that.
