What is known it that it is a gnomish designed weapon, forged by dwarves. Made out of the extremely rare red mithril found only in the deepest levels of the underdark where lava has melted mithril and mixed with it. This weapon has passed through the hands of many drow assassins at one time or another. Most recently it was in the hands of Deklar Va'Sooth of Menzoberranzan, who was assigned to assinate Luthien Fallensbane during one of his trips to Amn. Deklar failed horribly, and was literally crushed by Luthiens Iron Collossus protector. Luthien took the weapon as his own and used it only after lots of study making sure it would not be a danger to him. After studying it Luthien picked it up and set his will against the weapon, beating the will of the weapon and proving he was the superior. Blood tear is an extremely powerful artifact weapon, DM's should be very careful when allowing it in a campaign.
