[The King of Fighters NeoWave]

Version History

This was the first KoF title designed originally for any console other than the NEOGEO and the NGP. The NEOGEO hardware was steadily growing more and more outdated, and SNK was losing exponential sums of money due to emulation of their NEOGEO hardware. And so, to continue to compete with other developers, and to evade emulation, SNKP needed to shift their development towards a new arcade board. The most likely candidate for this was the AtomisWave board. This title, another dream match, was developed specifically for the AtomisWave board, to determine whether it would become the official arcade board of SNKP. Which as we know now, it did. This game itself is little more than an overhauled KoF 2002. All of the IP's owned by Eolith have been removed, and replaced with characters from KoF '98, among other slight roster changes, and a "new" last boss in the form of Geese Howard from The Art of Fighting 2. Furthermore, a new HEAT system was introduced to battle, and 3 different special meters could be chosen from. Beyond that, the improvements were purely facial. Hi-res graphics, 3D backgrounds, and higher quality music. The console versions feature the added characters of Rugal, Kusanagi, Seth, Angel, and May Lee.
