Ending

This follow-up title to KoF '99 seems to be doomed to obscurity. Every character in this game is featured in some other KoF. It's system is scarcely more than an ever-so-slightly tweaked version of '99's, it's Extra Striker System being the only commonly discussed feature. Thus, it one one of the least discussed KoF titles. However, it is my personal favorite of the NESTS Saga. Now defined, the devlopment of K' began. The game's intro reminds us of his feelings towards Kyo Kusanagi, supplier of his burning DNA. K' is re-united with his sister. And introduced to his rival, the ever-adorable yet tragic Kula Diamond. What's more, this game took place in historical Southtown, and features its destruction, setting the scene for SNK's Garou: Mark of the Wolves. This KoF is an indispensable segment of story in the SNK universe.

Returning to the topic of the game's highlighted Extra Striker System, some slight discussion can be placed here. Every character received at least one alternate striker that could be used in their stead. These characters were usually related to thier host characters in some fashion. Several of them, however, seem to be odd takes on the characters. Such is K's alternate striker, which goes by the name of Another K'. However, via articles posted at SNKP's official KoF 10th Anniversary site, we now know that this was in fact one of the final prototypes for K', but the decision was made at the last moment to change his hairstyle.

Story

It has been a while since the existence of the mysterious secret syndicate NESTS was brought to light. Since then, however, their presence still remains a mystery and they've kept their activities well under wraps.

Meanwhile, in contrast to NESTS seeming lack of action, an increase in terrorist activities throughout the world has been taking place. Heidern and his band of mercenaries have determined that these events are the work of K' and Maxima.

Heidern and his band quickly begin pursuit of these two, but just as they begin their efforts, the invitations for the latest KOF tournament are sent....!

The fighters ready themselves for the tournament to begin in various venues throughout the world.

Most remarkable among the invited teams is one in which K' and Maxima are listed as members!

Moreover, NESTS whip into the second phase of their project, as if summoned into action by the two "terrorists."

Is the beginning of NESTS's activities a mere coincidence? Or, could it be...?

Once again a feeling of impending conflict stifles the air, and the curtain on the latest King of Fighters is about to rise...!!!
