Rock and Kyo had returned to their friends with what was left of their own bikes. But the mourning would have to wait. At the moment, all eyes were focused on the two remaining competitors. The ones this race was really about. K' and K9999. K9999 was still in the lead. The finish line was only a little ways away... But with the speed at which K' was gaining on him, there was no doubt that K' would pass him beforee he could reach the goal. Realizing this, K9999 swerved to a stop, and waited. His icey gaze, filled with emnity watched the approachging K'. As K' came to reach K9999, he stopped his own bike. Both waited, watching one another. Their engines rumbled angrily at one another. A hush fell over the crowd once more. Kula and Angel had both seemed to stop breathing, caught in the moment. This was the moment of truth. This was a showdown. K9999 revved his bike, taunting K'. K' did the same with his own, followed by maxima shouting degrading remarks at K9999. Finally, they sped towards one another, in a game of chicken. From somewhere, eurobeat began to play. "FEEL THAT BLACKOUT, BLACKOUT... FEEL THAT BLACKOUT..." Fear and tension rose to new heights as the distance between the two grew smaller and smaller. "BLACKOUT!" The moment of impact came, and the two swerved slightly to the side, avoiding impact by centimeters. For a brief instant, their faces were but an inch apart. And in that instant, they made their moves. "EVERY NIGHT I KEEP ON BURNING, BURNING!" K9999 brought out his fist, catching K' in the stomach. "TURNING OUT THE LIGHTS, YOU TURN ME ON!" K's bike continued forward, but K' didn't. Kula and Whip cried out in fear. "YOU CAN BE WHAT YOU WANNA' BE IF YOU FOLLOW YOUR HEART..." K9999 smiled before deciding to fling K' to the side. But, K' held onto K9999's arm. "Let go!" K9999 screamed. "I'll do as I please!" "YOU CAN DO WHAT YOU WANNA' DO IN THE DARK OF THE NIGHT!" K' flipped around K9999' arm, landing on the back of his opponent's bike. K9999 turned to counter this, only to receive a One Inch to the face, adding some fresh blood to his face. "FEEL THAT BLACKOUT, BLACKOUT!" K9999 could never stand to be hit. The simple concept of anyone thinking they could stand up to him... The idea of a person actually being CAPABLE of landing a blow on him... It infuriated him. K9999's bike spun as he tried to get it under control and bring it to a stop. The sudden change in speed and direction flung K' off, and it was all he could do to land in a tumble that saved him from the blunt of the rough landing. "FEET'LL GET MOVING, FEET'LL GET CRAZY!" As K' stood, he saw his rival watching him. K9999 had his bike aimed straight at K'. Normally, having K' at his mercy would have brought a laugh to K9999. But at that moment, he felt only rage. He lifted his hand to his face, wiping the blood away with his black glove. His engine roared. And he sped towards his nemesis, hoping to end his life once and for all. "FEEL THAT BLACKOUT, BLACKOUT!" Kula buried her face in Whip's shoulder, not wanting to watch the result. A shame, for she missed K' executing his Crimson Star Road HSDM at the last possible moment, totalling K9999's bike in a feat only he was capable of. "BLACKOUT!!!" The eurobeat, ended leaving an explosion in its wake, which in turn left K9999 on the ground among the wreckage, howling out in pain. K' flung out his sunglasses, placing them over his eyes. He then casually walked towards his bike, lifting it from the floor and seating himself on it. He looked down at his fallen foe for a moment. As he writhed about on the floor, K9999 looked up at K' for a moment, cursing and hating him with every genetically engineered fiber of his being. K' accelerated towards the finish line, leaving dust in his wake. The crowd cheered, save for the distraught Angel. How could this be!? K9999 didn't understand. He surpassed K' in every way imaginable. So how was it that he was losing!? He wasn't capable of losing! It was because K9999 had to take care of all those other people! And thatstupid Maxima interfering! But, even with all of that considered, K9999 couldn't accept his defeat. His anger reached a height it had never known before. And as it did, a strange feeling began to come over him. His flesh was crawling... His anger had gone too far, and he began to lose control... As K' sped towards the finish line, he felt a sense of satisfaction. Maybe now, he could finally get some peace and quiet. That annoying clone probably wouldn't hold true to his half of the deal. But, at the least, his severe injuries might keep him out of K's hair for a little while. These thoughts began to drift away as K' noticed something very strange. The crowds cheers had stopped. As he directed his attentino to them, he saw that looks of horror had xcome across their faces. Looking over his shoulder, he saw the cause. A monstrosity was approaching. K9999's body had mutated, and absorbed the remains of his bike. Now, he was gaining on K' as some sort of cybernetic pile of flesh. "Gross," Angel commented. "Eww," Whip sneered. "Ugly," Kula whispered. "Weird," Rock gasped. "Stupid," everyone reading this fanfic muttered. K' sped towards the finish line. He was almsot there. He had almost made it. If he could just go a little further... But that hope quickly faded, as a tendril of flesh whipped out from the abomination formerly known as K9999, grabbing K's bike and flinging it to the side. After the impact, K' struggled to his feet. The crash had left him in bad shape. "I thought this was supposed to be a race!?" K' growled. "So what? We're still racing! As soon as one of us passes the finish line, this'll be over and done with. If you want to make a dash for it, go right ahead." K' growled, but took his fighting stance. It seemed that this race was going to end in an old school KoF match after all. The two prepared to clash once again, when suddenly... Ryo Sakazaki rode between the two, his bike slowly puttering at a pace slightly faster than a toddler's crawl. Gritting his teeth, leaning forward, Ryo slowly inched towards the goal. K' and K9999 glanced at one another with embarrassed expressions. Oblivious, Ryo continued to crawl between them. He was then engulfed in flames by simultaneous Trigger and Split! moves. Ryo drove his bike madly in his burning gi, screaming for water. Yuri and Robert ran after him, screaming hysterically. "Onii-san! Get off your bike! You can run faster than it drives!" "And come this way instead! There's nothing but desert that way, you moron!" K9999 watched the humorous situation for a moment before directing his attention back to K'. "So, shall we continue?" he paused, seeing that K' was no longer standing where he had been. He heard the roar of a bike, and turned to see K' speeding towards the goal. "NO! I won't let you!" With that, the two were racing towards the goal once more. It was so close. The race was finally at its end. The two approached the goal, riding neck and neck. Who would be the victor? This was it. The moment of truth. The moment that would decide it all. And as it reached the epic conclusion, the race's climax... "WHAT THE!?" K' and K9999 shouted in unison. A white Mazda RX-7 suddenly whizzed between the two of them, passing the goal. The crowd cheerd, though uncertain of what had just happened. K' stared blankly, as Kula and Whip ran to his side. He may not have won, but they were still proud of him and happy that he had at least held his own, despite all of K9999's fowl play. K9999, on the other hand, could not stand the fact that he had lost after all, and yelled after the Mazda. "KUSANAGIIIIII!!!!" As the car drove away, Kyona Kusanagi stuck her head out the window, laughing at the clone. "That's MISS Kusanagi to YOU, punk!" And with that, Kyona drove into the sunset, the first official King of Racers. "So this whole thing was just a big waste of time?" K' asked. "Well, it was entertaining, at least," Maxima muttered. "This is why I hate sports." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- The end! Wow, I'm happy that's over! I think it got progressively worse, due to my growing progressively sleepier, but if you've read to this point, than it must have been at least somewhat entertaining, so I guess it was worthwhile after all. I realized while writing this chapter that it would've made more sense to call the fanfic Crimson Star Road, and have the 3 chapters named after the DRive moves. Well, I'm too lazy to redraw the logos. I need to get some sleep now. Whee! I probably should've included the other racers too, like Chizuru... Anyways, this is fin, the end! Ciao and adieu!
