The
Bonding
of
Eydrith
and
Shale "Under
the
Light
and
by
my
hope
of
salvation
and
rebirth,
I,
Shale
Jannison,
swear
fealty
to
you,
Eydrith
Andentia,
to
faithfully
serve
and
obey
on
pain
of
my
life
and
honor.
My
blood
shed
before
yours,
my
life
for
yours.
World
without
end." Eydrith
Andentia
Sedai
gazed
serenely
at
the
handsome
man
before
her,
his
colour-shifting
Warder’s
cloak
stirring
slightly
as
he
knelt
where
he
had
lowered
himself
in
one
smooth
gesture.
His
left
hand
was
sturdy
as
stone
on
his
sword
hilt
as
he
stared
expectantly
up
at
her,
perhaps
wondering
whether
she
had
changed
her
mind
after
all
the
years
they
had
been
through
together
at
the
Netland
White
Tower...after
all
the
adventures
they
had
daringly,
and
perhaps
rather
blindly
leapt
into
as
novice
and
Warder
in
Training.
Remembering
the
hazards
they
had
dodged
throughout
the
Whitecloaks’
attack
on
Tar
Valon,
Eydrith
nearly
smiled
through
her
expressionless
mask.
They
had
saved
one
another’s
lives
too
many
times
to
count;
she
already
felt
a
strong
bond
of
friendship
and
loyalty
to
this
man,
if
not
a
bond
of
the
One
Power.
Fingering
the
yellow-fringed
shawl
about
her
shoulders,
Eydrith
smiled
warmly
down
at
her
most
trusted
friend
and
companion.
"In
the
name
of
the
Light,
I,
Eydrith
Andentia,
accept
your
oath,
Shale
Jannison,
and
create
between
us
a
bond
in
which
I
place
unwavering
trust."
She
had
not
been
aware
that
she
had
moved
until
she
had
taken
his
head
in
her
hands
and
embraced
the
sweetness
of
Saidar.
She
did
not
know
how
she
knew
the
weaves
she
was
to
create,
yet
as
she
gazed
into
his
eyes
it
did
not
matter.
Within
a
moment
she
had
woven
Air,
Spirit
and
Fire,
the
elements
most
commonly
used
in
Healing,
together
in
a
slightly-complex
array.
When
she
let
go
of
the
One
Power
and
lowered
her
hands,
she
smiled,
eyes
glittering
with
unshed
tears
of
joy.
She
closed
her
eyes
momentarily,
and
she
was
sure
that
if
he
had
moved
anywhere
else
she
would
be
able
to
point
directly
at
him,
following
him
wherever
he
moved.
"It is done," she breathed, knowing that he already knew, as she did. "Rise, Shale Jannison Gaidin," she smiled down at him. She knew she was beaming, and felt like an excited novice again, but she believed she had reason; the Light had blessed her by allowing her to know the greatest person she believed she would ever meet. She threw her arms around him when he rose, a broad grin on his face. He, as he so often did, reminded her of a wolf. She knew that he was a very lethal companion indeed, and pitied anyone who offered threat. |
