The letters DL mean Doctor's Lounge and CG means Community General and BH means Beach House. Enjoy! ABANDONED SYNOPSIS: When Jesse finds a young abused girl on
the beach, he doesn't expect to care or help her or even love her as much as he does. When
she begins to open up to him, he finds out she's been in abused foster homes for years and
her parents were murdered. Can he and the gang help solve the murder case of her parents,
and can Jesse really act on his feelings, even though nobody believes he could make a good
parent for this girl, except the girl? As we fade in, we see Jesse walking down the beach late one evening. He smiled at the ocean and just stood there, then- down the dunes he saw a young girl lying on the beach trying to stand. He frowned and began to make his way down the dune. He finally got to her. JESSE: Excuse me? Do, do you need a hand. The girl looked at him and he looked at her, the second their eyes locked he noticed something. A kind of caring that went out for her. JESSE: Hi, my, name is Dr. Jesse Travis, are you alright? She shook her head. Jesse walked over and sat next to her. He looked at her and sighed. JESSE: What happened to you? She looked away but he could see the fear on her face, she was pale and dirty, her clothes were ripped, and her hair was a mess, she had bruises all over her. JESSE: Who did this to you? GIRL: Are you going to hurt me? Jesse shook his head and moved her hair out of her face. JESSE: No, nobody's ever going to hurt you again. Um, listen, was it your Mom, or Dad? The girl looked down and sniffed crying. GIRL: They're gone. JESSE: Okay, my, apartment is just up the beach, do you think you can walk there? And then I can get a better examination of you, is that okay? She gave him a long stare then nodded. He grinned and pulled her up next to him, she leaned heavily against him. He helped her up the beach. JESSE: It's going to be okay. END OF TEASER, when we come back, Jesse's walking into his living room with a glass of water. The girl was sitting on the couch. Jesse sat next to her and handed her the glass of water. JESSE: There you go. She took it with a tiny smile and sipped the water. Jesse watched her for a few seconds. JESSE: Um, my name's Jesse like I said, what's yours? SONDRA: Sondra, Sondra Anne Porter and I'm 13. JESSE: It's nice to meet you. Sondra, who beat you? She looked down and back at him. SONDRA: If, if I tell you I'll be sent back, you'll send me back. JESSE: Back where? SONDRA: My foster home. Jesse's eyebrows raised. JESSE: Sondra, your foster parent beat you? She nodded. SONDRA: Please don't call the police, I'll leave if you don't want to be bothered by me, I, just can't go back. Jesse shook his head. JESSE: No I won't call the police tonight. Um, if you want to stay, I can provide you with clean clothes, a shower and food, tomorrow we need to go to the hospital though okay? She looked at him and slowly nodded. SONDRA: Okay, you, really do mean all of this don't you? He nodded. JESSE: Yeah, I really do. And I promise that I won't hurt you. She looked at him. SONDRA: I believe you. JESSE: Good, you want to take a shower? Sondra set her glass down and nodded. SONDRA: Okay. Then- we see Jesse walking over to his phone. He dialed a number. JESSE: Hi, Mary from 3b? This is Dr. Travis, yeah, what size is your daughter Stephanie's clothes? Then- we see Sondra walking out of the bathroom wearing a long nightshirt in bright striped girl colors and a pair of shorts. Jesse was making up a bed on the couch, he grinned at her. SONDRA: Thanks for the clothes, and, everything. JESSE: It's no problem. Tonight we'll get a good night's sleep and tomorrow we'll go from there. SONDRA: You're, not going to send me back to my foster home's are you? Jesse looked at her and there was a short pause. JESSE: We'll see, I want you to try and sleep now okay? She nodded. SONDRA: Okay Dr. Travis. He looked at her arms and saw bruises all over. His eyes went big, he'd never seen beat marks like hers before. She saw he was staring at them. JESSE: Sondra, did your foster parents really do that to you? She looked down and nodded. He sighed heavily and shook his head. JESSE: I'm, so sorry. Let's get some sleep okay? She nodded. SONDRA: Okay, you, promise you won't hurt me? Jesse looked at her and sat down on the couch. He patted the seat next to him and Sondra sat. JESSE: Sondra, let me explain something to you. I don't know what kind of pain or heartache you've been through but, I promise you that when you're in my care. I will never, ever hurt you and I will never put you in a position where you'll be hurt, I won't. SONDRA: You promise? Jesse nodded. JESSE: Yes I do promise, now, do you feel better? SONDRA: After hearing that, yeah. Jesse grinned and stood. JESSE: I'm glad, you can sleep here and, if you need ANYTHING, I'll just be in the next room, and I'll leave my door open okay? She nodded and Jesse pulled the covers down for her. She climbed under them and Jesse smiled at her. JESSE: You're safe here. SONDRA: I know. He walked to his bedroom door and turned watching as she covered herself up and snuggled under the covers. He sighed and walked into his room. NEXT MORNING, Jesse was walking into the kitchen in his sweats and nightshirt and bathrobe. He glanced at Sondra and saw she was still asleep. He began to make coffee when the phone rang. He reached over and quickly grabbed it. JESSE: Hello? AMANDA: Jesse hey, it's Amanda, is everything alright? JESSE: Um, yeah why? AMANDA: Well, you were going to come in early to discuss the Billing autopsy and, it's not like you to not show up. JESSE: Oh yeah I forgot, um, Amanda I'll be in, in a few hours, something came up last night. AMANDA: Oh, okay was it a date? JESSE: No. AMANDA: Well, what, paperwork. JESSE: No. He began to tell her and on her end of the line her eyes got big as he finished. AMANDA: You're kidding me right? JESSE: No I'm not. AMANDA: Um, is she okay? JESSE: Kind of, I'm planning on bringing her in for a proper examination, you wouldn't believe the kind of pain she' probably been through it's horrible. AMANDA: Jesse do you really care about this girl? He nodded. JESSE: I'm beginning to, I'll be in around ten, can you have a room ready? AMANDA: Sure, and, I think we need to identify the police, if you know what I mean. JESSE You can tell Steve and Mark for me, I need to talk to them anyway. AMANDA: Will do. JESSE: Okay, thanks Amanda. AMANDA: No problem, I'll see you later. JESSE: Alright bye. He hung up. Amanda slightly grinned and shook her head. AMANDA: I never would've guessed. Mark then drove by on his scooter. MARK: Hi Amanda! AMANDA: Hi Mark. Mark wait! She hurried after him. Then- we see Jesse poring himself a cup of coffee. Sondra woke up slowly and sat up rubbing her eyes. She stood and stretched and walked into the kitchen. Jesse turned and grinned at her. JESSE: Hi, good morning Sondra. SONDRA: Morning Dr. Travis. JESSE: Did you sleep well? Sondra nodded. SONDRA: Very well, what's, the plan for today? JESSE: Well, first we're going to eat breakfast, what would you like? SONDRA: I get a choice? Jesse looked at her. JESSE: Yeah, of course you do. He grinned. JESSE: And I'll have whatever you do. Sondra smiled. SONDRA: Okay. Then- we see Sondra and Jesse walking into CG. Sondra was holding Jesse's hand. It seemed that overnight they had developed a strong relationship overnight. Jesse led her to the NS. JESSE: Hey Amy. AMY: Hey Dr. Travis, who's your little friend? JESSE: Um, this is Sondra. AMY: Hi Sondra. Sondra moved behind Jesse shyly. SONDRA: Hi. JESSE: Um, have you seen Dr. Sloan? AMY: Yeah, he's in pediatrics, it's Thursday, magic show day. Jesse grinned. JESSE: Thanks, come on Sondra. Jesse and Sondra walked down the hall. JESSE: Sondra, you, ever seen a magic show? Sondra shook her head. JESSE: Well, there's a time for everything. Then- we see Mark in the pediatric ward doing a magic show with Amanda standing back watching. Sondra and Jesse came in the back. Sondra looked at Mark and Amanda. Mark was rubbing a ball between his hands. MARK: Now, we roll it and roll it until it's nice and soft, then, we put it in my hand and- He shut his hand, and opened it and it was gone, the kids let out, wow's. MARK: And there it is, under my shoe. The kids clapped as it came back out. MARK: Thank you, now, for my final trick, I shall, fix this coloring book. He picked up a coloring book. MARK: Now, this coloring book I bought yesterday but, I got into some trouble, I think I was scammed, all of the pages, are blank. He flipped through the pages and it was blank. The kids looked at each other and frowned. MARK: What are we going to do? The kids shrugged, including Sondra, Jesse saw her do that and grinned. MARK: Well, maybe my magic wand can help. Mark pulled out his magic wand. MARK: Now, Annie, will you please hit the coloring book with the magic wand after I say the magic words? She nodded and Mark handed her the magic wand. MARK: Abracadabra, Sonoma honoma. She hit it hard and Mark flipped through the coloring book, not only was the coloring book full of pictures, they were also colored beautifully. All of the kids went Wow! And Oooh! Sondra smiled. Mark grinned. MARK: Good job Annie! And good job kids. I'll be back later. KIDS: Bye Magician Sloan! Mark grinned, gathered his things and left grinning. Amanda followed him. Jesse and Sondra stepped back and walked over to them. AMANDA: That was great Mark. MARK Thank you my dear. He began putting his magic tricks in his bag as Sondra and Jesse walked over to them. Amanda poked Mark and they both looked at Jesse. It was obvious they both knew about Sondra slightly. JESSE: Mark, Amanda, I want you to meet Sondra Anne Porter, Sondra, these are my best friends, Dr. Amanda Bentley and Dr. Mark Sloan. Mark and Amanda grinned at her. MARK: Hi Sondra. AMANDA: Nice to meet you. SONDRA: Hi. Nice, nice to meet you too. JESSE: Um, let's go to the exam room okay? She nodded and they began to walk down the hall. Mark noticed that Sondra was standing close to Jesse. He grinned slightly. Then- we see Jesse leading Sondra into an exam room, she looked around frightened. JESSE Okay, let's lay down on the bed. She sat up and then lay down. Jesse grinned and pulled his stethoscope off. JESSE: There you go, I, have to go call X-ray Sondra, Mark will stay with you while I'm gone okay? She looked at him fearfully. SONDRA: No, no Dr. Travis. JESSE: It's okay, Mark won't hurt you I promise. She looked at Mark and he grinned at her, she looked back at Jesse and he leaned over her smiling. He stroked her hair. JESSE: I promise, okay? She took a deep breath and nodded. SONDRA: Okay. Mark walked over to her. MARK: Sondra, that's a beautiful name. Sondra looked at him and sat up. SONDRA: Really? He nodded. MARK: Of course. Oh, look at that. Sondra frowned. SONDRA: What? Mark reached out behind her ear and revealed a small candy bar. She looked at it and her eyes went wide. SONDRA: Wow, how'd you do that? He grinned and handed her the candy bar. MARK: (as Jesse leaves) I'll show you later. How old are you? Amanda met Jesse in the hall. AMANDA: Uh, when are you going to call social services? JESSE: Soon, soon. What do you think? AMANDA: She, seems like a very sweet girl, and that she trusts you. Jesse nodded. JESSE: She does. She trusts me a lot. AMANDA: Good, but, don't make any promises that you can't keep. He looked at her and saw the sincere look she was giving him. JESSE: Okay. I won't. But, it seems that she really trusts me which is good right. She nodded. AMANDA: Yes, it doesn't seem like she's trusted anyone in a long time. I'll go see if Steve's here yet. JESSE: Okay, tell him that, I don't want to get social services involved just yet. AMANDA: All right, I'm, proud of you Jesse. Jesse grinned. JESSE: Thanks. Then- we see him walking into the exam room, Mark was showing Sondra a few card tricks She giggled at a joke he made and Jesse grinned. JESSE: Having fun? Sondra looked at him. SONDRA: Yes, Dr. Sloan, I mean Mark is really nice. JESSE: I told you he was, now, Sondra I need to examine you okay? She slightly nodded. JESSE: Okay. He went over to he and put his stethoscope on. MARK: It won't hurt sweetie. She took a deep breath and Jesse put the stethoscope on her chest. JESSE: Okay take a deep breath. She did, Jesse frowned and had her do it again. JESSE: Good work, now let's do the ba- He stopped short once he lifted her shirt to look at her back. He couldn't peak. He looked at Mark and saw the pained look in his eyes. Jesse took a deep breath, there were scars there and evidence of past beatings, deep scratches, bruises, things Jesse didn't expect. Sondra looked at him as he went in front of her. JESSE: Sondra, did, your foster parents do this to you? She looked down. SONDRA: Sometimes, sometimes I make them angry. MARK: How? SONDRA: I, I don't clean the house good, or, I make to much noise at night. JESSE: Sondra, there is no excuse for what they did to you. We're going to make sure they, pay for doing this to you. SONDRA: (looking at him with tears in her eyes) How? You're going to have to investigate a dozen foster parents at least. MARK: More people have beaten you? She nodded and sniffed. SONDRA: Yes, Dr. Travis I'm so scared. JESSE: I know, come here. She welcomed his arms around her and he rocked her gently holding her close. JESSE: I won't let anyone, EVER hurt you again, I won't. Mark looked at them. He couldn't help but see the love Jesse had when he was looking and talking to her. Mark couldn't believe though, the kind of care Jesse was putting out for her. He'd never seen Jesse act like this with a child. He smiled slightly. JESSE: Let's finish the examination okay? She nodded slightly. SONDRA: Okay. Then- we see Mark leaving the exam room. Jesse was helping Sondra lie down in a hospital bed with a gown on. JESSE: Alright, you did good. Very good, I want you to rest until I get the X-rays back okay? She nodded. SONDRA: Okay. Dr. Travis, will you promise me something? JESSE: Sure. Sondra looked at him. SONDRA: Promise, promise me you won't call the police and send me back and, will you help me find the person who killed me parents? Jesse looked at her shocked and we fade out slowly on Sondra's face. COMMERCIAL BREAK, when we come back, we see Amanda, Mark and Steve in the hall talking. STEVE: So, how old is this girl? MARK: 13. STEVE: And her foster parents beat her up? AMANDA: Yes, she's, been in foster homes for awhile and, she's been abused the entire time. STEVE: Did you call social services? MARK: Not yet. STEVE: Not yet? Dad we need to call the police. AMANDA: The girl is scared, and we need to make her feel safe before we call any police, we did that with Dion and I almost lost him. MARK: She's right. STEVE: Yeah I know that but, if we don't call them they'll- MARK: We can get temporary custody through the police department. STEVE: Based on what? JESSE Murder. They all turned and saw Jesse standing there. MARK: Murder? JESSE: Yeah. STEVE: What murder? JESSE: Her parents. AMANDA: Her parents were murdered? He nodded. JESSE: That's what she said. MARK: How? Jesse shrugged. JESSE: I didn't ask but, she wants me to help her find the person who killed them. STEVE: (sighing) I'll look into it, can I speak with her? Jesse nodded and Steve and him walked into her room. Sondra looked at them, she looked frightened seeing an unfamiliar face in the room. JESSE: Sondra, this is my best friend, Lt. Steve Sloan, he wants to talk to you is that alright? She slowly nodded. STEVE: Okay. Um, how are you feeling? SONDRA: All right I guess, a little scared. STEVE: Well I can understand that. Um, can you tell me what happened last night? SONDRA: You, mean to me? He nodded. Sondra looked down at her hands and sniffed. JESSE: Sondra, we need to know what happened so that we can stop your foster parents from doing it again. SONDRA: No, they, they'll hurt me gain. STEVE: I won't let that happen. JESSE: And neither will I. SONDRA: Um, my, foster parent got really mad at me for not fixing dinner right so he began to beat me. JESSE: Just for not making dinner right? She nodded. SONDRA: Yeah, and, I ran down the beach to try and get away and, then he came and beat me some more, then you found me. Jesse walked over and sat beside her. JESSE: I'm so sorry Sondra. She looked at him. SONDRA: Thanks. STEVE: What're they're names? SONDRA: Peters, Frank and Rachel Peters, Rachel had nothing to do with it, she tried to stop him. JESSE: Why didn't she succeed? Sondra took a deep breath. SONDRA: He beat her too. That's when I ran. JESSE: Sondra, we're going to stop this. SONDRA: Yeah, you say that now, but when they move me, it'll be just as horrible, I don't ever want to go back into foster homes, ever. Jesse rubbed her back as she began sobbing. JESSE: It's going to be all right. Steve walked over and sat in the chair next to her bed. STEVE Sondra, you told Jesse you wanted him to help you find the person who killed your parents right? She nodded and wiped her eyes. SONDRA: Yes. STEVE: Were they really killed? Sondra nodded. SONDRA: Murdered, their names are Katrina and Stacie Porter, will you help me? Jesse nodded. JESSE Of, course we will Sondra but, if your parents were murdered, didn't the police investigate it? Sondra nodded. SONDRA: Yes, the police said that, my Dad killed my Mom and then killed himself but, I know that it isn't true. STEVE: How do you know that? She looked at him. SONDRA: Because I saw them murdered. STEVE: Then why don't the police believe you? SONDRA: Because they think I was imagining, or hallucinating. JESSE: What- Her eyes filled with tears and she began crying. Jesse stopped and sat next to her hugging her close as she began sobbing uncontrollably. JESSE: It's okay. It's all right. Steve watched them with a face of sorrow. Then- we see Jesse and Steve in Steve's car talking. STEVE: Well, I can see where we definitely need to investigate her parents but, what we have to accomplish first is taking care of her foster parents. JESSE: That should be no problem. Man, I just can't believe what she's been through. Steve looked at him. STEVE: You care about her don't you? Jesse nodded. JESSE: Yeah, I do. Is there something wrong with that? He looked slightly offended at Steve. Steve shrugged and shook his head. STEVE: No of course not but, I've, never seen you take this kind of care for your patient. JESSE: She's more than that, she's a friend in need, you know what that's like. STEVE: Yeah, here we go. They drove up to a broken down house near the beach. Jesse frowned looking at it. JESSE: Are, you sure this is the place? STEVE: Positive. I got it through the social services. JESSE: You didn't tell them about Sondra did you? STEVE: Not yet, you going to get her things? Jesse nodded as they climbed out of his car. JESSE: I want to get her out of this situation as soon as possible. They walked to the front door and Steve knocked. STEVE: Sondra does seem like a sweet girl by the way. Jesse grinned. JESSE: Thanks. The door opened and they stepped back. A young child, about ten was standing there. STEVE: Hi sweetie, my name's Lt. Steve Sloan, is your Dad here? She nodded and then a rough tough mean looking guy came over o the door and pushed his daughter aside. Jesse felt his face flush with anger when he looked at him. STEVE: Um, Mr. Frank Peters? He nodded. FRANK: Yes, who are you? Steve showed him his badge. STEVE: Lt. Steve Sloan, I'd like to ask you a few questions. FRANK: About what? STEVE: About your foster child Sondra Porter. FRANK: She's no longer in my care. JESSE: Yeah I bet she isn't, you beat her up last night didn't you?! Steve gave Jesse a, shut-up look. Frank frowned. FRANK: I have no idea what you're talking about, and, you have no proof. STEVE: Yeah we do, she told us you did this. FRANK: Right, I didn't touch her, but, if you want her go ahead, she's a brat anyway. JESSE: How many kids do you have Frank? FRANK: 3. Listen, you can't be here without a arrant. STEVE: What's wrong Frank, you got something to hide? FRANK: No, but I don't like being harassed. JESSE: Listen, I want all of Sondra's things now, and if you dare go near her again, I'll kill you myself, you jerk. Steve poked Jesse in the back. FRANK: Just as long as she's out of my hair, her stuff's in her room, at the end of the hall on the left. They walked inside and to her room. Jesse frowned at the mess that was all over. He walked into the bedroom. There were two beds, one against each wall. Jesse walked to a bed and picked up a bag with Sondra's name on it, he looked on the bed where the bag was and saw 3 stuffed animals, one a doll, one a beanie baby Nooka dog, and the third, a special looking teddy bear. He piled them in the suitcase and got to the drawers and began piling her clothes in the bag, he saw some books along with a filled journal on the desk and placed them in her suitcase, he noticed the books were on medical issues, and one on abuse. He zipped the suitcase and left. Frank met him at the door. FRANK: You'd better never come here again and never let Sondra come back. Jesse glared at him. JESSE: Don't worry. He left. Then- we see Sondra asleep in her hospital bed. Jesse was standing at the door watching her. Mark came over to him. JESSE: She's finally asleep. MARK: Yeah, Jesse, I got the X-rays back on your patient. Jesse turned and saw the grim look on his face. JESSE: And? Mark sighed and looked down. MARK: Let's go get a cup of coffee. Jesse nodded. They walked down the hall. Then- we see them in the DL. Mark handed Jesse a older of X-rays, Jesse took a sip of his coffee and took it. JESSE: How bad? Mark sighed. MARK: Pretty bad. JESSE: Well, she's out of her foster home for good. MARK: You talked to him? Jesse nodded and walked over to his X-ray table. He put the X-rays up an stepped back looking at them. Mark saw his eyes get big as he looked at them and his eyes glisten with tears. JESSE: Oh my gosh, look at these breaks in her arms and legs. MARK: The fractures of the ribs, Jesse this girl's been through so much abuse. JESSE: I know, and I'm going to make it stop. Mark frowned. MARK: How? JESSE: I don't know but I know where I can start, I'm going to try and make her feel as safe as possible and, maybe then she'll tell us exactly what's been happening to her. MARK: I thought she did. JESSE: Not enough for us to be able to help her. She only trusts me, we need her to be able to talk to everyone about it, so that some of her fears can subside. Mark nodded. MARK: You're right, she's also been badly unnourished and she's dehydrated. JESSE: I, I know that. MARK: Jesse, she's really attached to you, do you believe that you can handle her? Jesse sighed and nodded. JESSE: Mark, two days ago I would've said no way, but now, I want to tell you yes, and, so I will, yes Mark I do believe I can help and handle her. MARK: Good. I hope you can. Then- a nurse came in. NURSE: Dr. Travis, Miss Porter's waking up, she's screaming for you and, we can't keep her down. JESSE: Okay. He ran off with her, Mark hurried after him. Jesse hurried to Sondra's, room, you could hear the screams 20 feet away. He ran into her room and saw several Doctor's and nurses trying to hold her down as se screamed for Jesse. Jesse rushed to her side. JESSE: Sondra I'm right here. Sondra clung to him sobbing. SONDRA: You didn't, you didn't leave me, you didn't leave me. Jesse gently sat on the bed and rocked her back and forth. JESSE: Of course I didn't, I could never leave you alone. Never. Shhh, shhh, calm down sweetie. She just clung to him crying. The Doctor's and
nurses left. Mark watched Jesse comfort Sondra. Then- we see Jesse setting Sondra's bag on
SONDRA: You got my things? JESSE: I'm never going to send you back there, here's your CD's. He handed them to her and she smiled slightly looking at them, he sat next to her on her bed. JESSE: You know we share interests? She looked at him. SONDRA: How? JESSE: Well, my favorite band group is Plus One too. Sondra glanced at him. SONDRA: No way. JESSE: Yes way, I listen to them all the time, what's your favorite song? SONDRA: I run to you. JESSE: Why? SONDRA: It makes me feel like someone's out there looking out for me and, helps me when I get hurt. JESSE: I'm glad you feel that way. Sondra, it's, time we told your social worker what happened. Sondra looked at him fearfully. SONDRA: No, Dr. Travis please. She'll take me away from you. JESSE: No, no Sondra. I'm not going to let that happen. SONDRA: You, you don't understand, the police will do it, and, I'll never see you again. Jesse hugged her. JESSE: Sondra, I promise I won't let that happen, and to prove it, I'm going to take you home this afternoon to prove it okay? She looked at him and he wiped a tear from her cheek using his thumb. SONDRA: Promise? Jesse grinned and nodded. JESSE: I promise. She smiled slightly. SONDRA: I believe you. Then- we see Jesse in BBQ BOB'S with Sondra. She was picking at her meal. Jesse watched. JESSE: Sondra, you need to eat everything okay? She nodded. SONDRA: I, I know. I'm trying. Jesse grinned. JESSE: Okay, you just eat as much as you can Sweetie. Sondra darted a glance at him. He took a bite dog his food, saw she was staring at him and set his fork down. JESSE: What is it? SONDRA: You, you called me sweetie. Jesse grinned sheepishly. JESSE: Yeah I did, I'm sorry if I offended you or, if you didn't like it- Sondra shook her head. |
