THE DEAD MILKMEN
The Pit

Use the low Em chord (022000) rather than the high one (x79987)
whenever possible, because the high one just doesn't sound quite
right. Otherwise use bar chords as usual. Some of the chords
are kind of tricky to pick, so corrections are more than welcome.

I love this one, especially as an album intro, for the sheer
indifference shown by the other band members to Rodney's enthusiasm.
Great stuff.

Intro: (drums only)
-----

- Are you ready Dave?
- Uh-huh.
- Malory?
- Ok.
- Joe?
- I don't know.
- Well, alright, fellas... Let's go!!!

Chorus:
------
Em D
Hee and a hoe
      D C#m
And I love my baby so
       D Bm G Em
In the bottom of the bottomless pit
Em D
Don't make a sound
            D C#m
Or we might drag your baby down
       D Bm G C
To the bottom of the bottomless pit

Verse:
-----
C G
I'm covered with slime and ick and goo
    A C
But that's ok, 'cause my woman is too
C G
And we live in the stench of a dirt-walled hole
    A D
And we don't give a damn about pest control

chorus:
It's a hee and a hoe
God I love my baby so
In the bottom of the bottomless pit
Don't make a sound
Or we might drag your baby down
To the bottom of the bottomless pit

verse:
Well, call us nauseating if that's what you please
Or call us Ron and Nancy 'cause it's all the same disease
This kind of thing happens in the best of homes
This kind of thing happens wherever I roam

chorus:
It's a hee and a hoe
And I love my baby so
In the bottom of the bottomless pit
Don't make a sound
Or we might drag your baby down
To the bottom of the bottomless pit

verse:
I wanna hear you shout the words to this song
So let's all join in and we'll all sing along
And maybe scare the neighbours or your mom and dad
Or maybe get rich off some brand new fad!

Last Chorus:
-----------

This one's a bit different. The first half is just single
strums. The second half is kind of different from the rest,
so use the high Em chord instead. The last Bm chord might
have a G on the bass instead, but it's pretty hard to pick
out.

       Em D
It's a hee and a hoe
      D C#m
And I love my baby so
       D Bm Em
In the bottom of the bottomless pit
Em D#
Don't make a sound
            D C#m
Or we might drag your baby down
       C Bm Em
To the bottom of the bottomless pit

End on Em.
