THE DEAD MILKMEN
Life is Shit

from Beelzebubba

Tabbed by: Ben Gladdle (moose9377@hotmail.com)

This is still one of my favourite DM songs... especially when used
for festive occasions, such as ringing in the New Year! (Though it
does attract some odd looks and threats). And I've pencilled it in
for use at my funeral.

To tab, this was (maybe still is?) a complete bastard, mainly cause
of some bass stuff that really throws me off on a couple of the
chords. So if you use this, tell me how wonderful it is, or at least
fix up those couple of mistakes that have no doubt crept in.

There was a tab for this floating around the net somewhere but, and no
offense to whoever it was (because I know how hard it was to work out!),
but it was completely wrong. I've had most of this done for ages, but
have been stuck on the bridge part on the end for months.

A couple of side notes before you start... The F-C-C/B-C which is the
main part of the verse (and a good bit of the chorus) could really
be done either of 2 ways.

Using F 133211 F 133211
       C x32010 or C x35553
     C/B x20010 C/B x25553

I prefer the first myself, but take this with a grain of salt as
they're probably both wrong. It would be nice if you've got a bass
player to play the B.

Anyway... enough of my crap. Here we go!

Intro/Verse:
-----------
F C C/B C
F C C/B C
                           I
F C C/B C
ran into a friend of mine, Said he was
F C C/B C
gonna take some words and make them rhyme, I said
F C C/B C
"You can fool some of them some of the time, But you can
F C C/B C
Only fool half them all of the time" He said
G
"Yes I do believe this is true, Would you
Am
like to come and sniff some glue? And we'll
F
fly to where the skies are blue, And
G
look for things both bright and new" And on a
G
   Pretty Sunday morning
F
A bunch of pretty Baptist girls
Em
   Linked their pretty hands
D
   and they sang

Chorus:
------
C C/B
Life is shit, life is shit
    Am E
The world is shit, the world is shit
F C C/B C
This is life as I know it
F C
This is life as I know it

Verse:
-----
F C C/B C
And in the sky I saw Richard Nixon
F C C/B C
Smoking a lacey with Mr. Dickson
       F C C/B C
He said "Son there's something I must say, I
F C C/B C
I do believe I've found a better way" And a
G
Vision came
    F Em
And I knew it was Bob Crane
        D
And Bob sang:

Chorus:
------
C C/B
Life is shit, life is shit
    Am E
The world is shit, the world is shit
F C C/B C
This is life as I know it
F C
This is life as I know it

Bridge:
------
This was by far the hardest part of this song. I'm still not 100%
on a couple of the chords, namely the C/G (332010) at the start
and the Bm at the end. It's very close, though.

Dm C/G
And when my friend and I were done
   Bm G
We went to rest upon the sun
          C G
Cause life takes from us the things we love
      Am Em
And it robs us of the special ones
      F Em
And it puts them high where we can't climb
      Bm G
And we only miss them all the time

Chorus:
------
NC
And we sing:
C C/B
Life is shit, life is shit
    Am E
The world is shit, the world is shit
F C C/B C
This is life as I know it
F C C/B C
This is life as I know it
F Em
This is life as I know it
Am Bb
This is life as I know it
F C Cmaj7
This is life as I know it

The best I came up with was a Cmaj7 for that last chord... I'm pretty
sure it's right too. Just play a C with the top 2 strings open, giving
you (x32000). You could also do (x35500) or even (8-10-10-9-0-0), but
I'd do the first myself.

Let it ring, and then you're done! (And I'm finally done tabbing this
damn song!)

Except for....... (if you're listening to the album)
