THE DEAD MILKMEN Bucky Fellini - Album Tabbed by: Ben Gladdle (moose9377@hotmail.com) unless noted otherwise. 1. The Pit 2. Take Me To The Specialist (missing) 3. I Am The Walrus 4. Watching Scotty Die 5. Going To Graceland 6. Big Time Operator 7. Instant Club Hit (You'll Dance To Anything) 8. The Badger Song 9. Tacoland 10. City Of Mud 11. Rocketship 12. Nitro Burning Funny Cars 13. Surfin' Cow 14. (Theme From) Blood Orgy Of The Atomic Fern 15. Jellyfish Heaven 1 - The Pit ----------- Use the low Em chord (022000) rather than the high one (x79987) whenever possible, because the high one just doesn't sound quite right. Otherwise use bar chords as usual. Some of the chords are kind of tricky to pick, so corrections are more than welcome. I love this one, especially as an album intro, for the sheer indifference shown by the other band members to Rodney's enthusiasm. Great stuff. Intro: (drums only) ----- - Are you ready Dave? - Uh-huh. - Malory? - Ok. - Joe? - I don't know. - Well, alright, fellas... Let's go!!! Chorus: ------ Em D Hee and a hoe D C#m And I love my baby so D Bm G Em In the bottom of the bottomless pit Em D Don't make a sound D C#m Or we might drag your baby down D Bm G C To the bottom of the bottomless pit Verse: ----- C G I'm covered with slime and ick and goo A C But that's ok, 'cause my woman is too C G And we live in the stench of a dirt-walled hole A D And we don't give a damn about pest control chorus: It's a hee and a hoe God I love my baby so In the bottom of the bottomless pit Don't make a sound Or we might drag your baby down To the bottom of the bottomless pit verse: Well, call us nauseating if that's what you please Or call us Ron and Nancy 'cause it's all the same disease This kind of thing happens in the best of homes This kind of thing happens wherever I roam chorus: It's a hee and a hoe And I love my baby so In the bottom of the bottomless pit Don't make a sound Or we might drag your baby down To the bottom of the bottomless pit verse: I wanna hear you shout the words to this song So let's all join in and we'll all sing along And maybe scare the neighbours or your mom and dad Or maybe get rich off some brand new fad! Last Chorus: ----------- This one's a bit different. The first half is just single strums. The second half is kind of different from the rest, so use the high Em chord instead. The last Bm chord might have a G on the bass instead, but it's pretty hard to pick out. Em D It's a hee and a hoe D C#m And I love my baby so D Bm Em In the bottom of the bottomless pit Em D# Don't make a sound D C#m Or we might drag your baby down C Bm Em To the bottom of the bottomless pit End on Em. 2 - Take Me To The Specialist ----------------------------- Missing 3 - I Am The Walrus ------------------- The bass makes this song... Well, the bass and the great screaming "Nancy Sinatra" part... And the Portland bit. :) The guitar in the verse is hardly audible and definitely secondary. I don't have a bass myself, so this is an approximation, but should be pretty damn close. The only trouble I had was that you need that lower D in there, so you're going to have to tune your lower E down to a D. For the guitar part, just play E and D bar chords (x79997 and x57775 respectively, just in case you were wondering), where indicated above the bass riff. You could play it higher up, but these are the right notes I think. The timing, as always, is an approximation. There's some quick notes in there, so just try and fit as many of them in as possible. Bass: (verse) ---- E E E E E E G----------------------------------------------- D------2--2------------------------------------- A-----------5-5-5-2-2-2-------0-/-2--2-2-2------ D--2---------------------2-2-------------------- D D D D D D G----------------------------------------------- D----------------------------------------------- A------5--5-3-3-3------------------------------- D--0--------------7-7-7--0-0--5-/-7--7-7-7------ A young watusi watches 'I Love Lucy' And I think 'what can this mean?' (x4) verse: Sold my niece to Edwin Meese And I wonder what life's about Talked of tires While your dog caught fire And I wonder what life's about chorus: They call me the walrus! (x4) Bridge: ------ F Yeah! Some nights I'm lying in bed! Bb Wonderin' what would happen if Nancy Sinatra suddenly Eb Freaked out and climbed a tree and decided Gm She doesn't want to sing 'These Boots are Made for Walking' any more D And all she ever wanted to do for the rest of her natural life Eb A D C F Eb D Bb F Was hum the 'Theme to Swat' chorus: They call me the walrus! (x4) verse: Poke out your eyes And move to Portland Kill your wife And move to Portland Burn down your home And move to Portland Come on everybody! We're movin' to Portland chorus: They call me the walrus! (x3) Yeah I am the walrus! End on G. 4 - Watching Scotty Die ----------------------- This used to be almost my favourite Milkmen song (when I was 14 or 15). However, I never had much luck introducing it to people: they never seemed to find the subject very humorous. This was actually very difficult to tab (ok, chord) accurately. There was another tab floating around but it never really did it for me. The trick to it is the bass, which doesn't strictly follow the guitar. There are various points in the song where you can hear this, most notably in the 2nd verse where it hits "yellow". There are also a few walk downs going on which complicates matters. However, I've done the best I can, and hope to clear up confusion one day by tabbing out the bass. Anyway, enjoy this and please correct me if you know better. Even if you aren't sure, have a shot at it! I had a shot and put in the violin part for the intro (arranged for guitar of course). Might do the rest of the fills one day. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bass: ---- There are two walk downs. I'm sure you can hear them. In the intro between the D and the G it goes down D-C-B-A-G. In the verse between the D and the Em it goes down D-C-B-A-E. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Intro: ----- OK, there's 3 parts here. The chords, the violin part arranged for guitar, and the bass. I've written them all out together so you can see where they join up. The last G in the intro bit corresponds to the first G in the verse. The tricky bit (which I still can't work out) is the variation on the D chord in the verse. If anyone has any ideas, please mail me! Otherwise, enjoy what's here for the moment, cause I think the rest of it works fine. The only real guitar that is easily identifiable is a single short strum of each chord on each pause, approximately where I've put the X's in the following. Listen out for these, as there's a few more played here and there, especially during Rodney's solo "Just me!" part. If anyone wants to help out with the solos, please go right ahead! And what do you know, it's not even complete! Seriously though, this song has a tiny bit of bass and the only guitar is a "solo" that is just a great big mess (the "choke on this" part) of nasty distortion and feedback that's probably not going to get tabbed by me. Never understood why this one was so popular, either... Bass: ---- G-------------------- D-------------------- Play this for the verses. A-------------------- The hammer on is just noticeable. E--3--------2h3-3---- Or you could slide it if you want. G------------------------ D------------------------ Play this for the "artfags" bit. A------------------------ E--2-2-3-3-2-2-3-3-etc.-- That's really it. No one's ever going to try and play this at home anyway, so I don't know why I even bothered! Lyrics: ------ You'll dance to anything (x4) Oh, baby, look at you Don't you look like Siouxsie Sioux How long'd it take to get that way What a terrible waste of energy You wear black clothes say you're poetic The sad truth is you're just pathetic Get into the groove just get out of my way I came here to drink not to get laid So why don't you just go on home 'Cause if you want to moan you'll have to moan alone You'll dance to anything (x2) Don't try to tell me that you're an intellectual Cause you're just another boring bisexual "I met Andy Warhol at a really chic party" Blow it out your hairdo 'cause you work at Hardees 80 pounds of make up on your art school skin 80 points of I.Q. located within Know what you are? You're a bunch of ... Artfags! Artfags! Artfags! Artfags! Choke on this you dance-a-teria types! You'll dance to anything by the Communards You'll dance to anything by Book of Love You'll dance to anything by The Smiths You'll dance to anything by Depeche Commode You'll dance to anything by Public Image Limited You'll dance to anything by Naked Truth You'll dance to anything by any bunch of stupid Europeans who come over here with their big hairdos intent on taking our money instead of giving your cash, where it belongs, to a decent American artist like myself! You'll dance to anything! 8 - The Badger Song ------------------- Damn. This one was another of the "impossible" ones, but I gradually pieced it together. The stuff in the "The badger's your friend" bit was just mind-numbingly irritating, but it finally revealed itself to me in a dream... No, I'm just kidding. It did take hours of trial and error, but I think I've got it. Pretty tricky to play, too. That E-A stuff in the verse is quick, so you'll have to play open chords for that bit... If you're a bit confused, mail me. As always, the bits should be well marked, but it should be easy to pick up what goes where from just listening along. There may also be some confusion from bass notes here and there, so I may get to the bass tab soon. Now with all that out the way, I'll just add that this is a really cool song. Very funny. Love the "Blblblblb" (that can't be the best way to spell it!) and scream at the end. Verse: ----- E A E A Out in the woods E A E A Up to no good F#m D E A E A I wanna make friends with the badger E A E A The woodchuck likes me F#m D We smoke PCP A C#m F#m D I wanna make friends with the badger I mean it! You don't really need to worry about the D/A unless you feel it sounds better. Chorus: ------ F#m F#m D D The badger's your friend! Make friends with the badger! In my opinion, anyway. Two guitars in this one, a normal guitar and another lead guitar that's used on all the slide parts. My slide is missing, but you might want to dig yours out and have a shot. Once again, it's all bar chords, and I'm feeling nice today, so I'm going to list 'em all for ya, but you really should know these by now. That's about all I have to say on the matter. My favourite bit is the second chorus (the first half anyway)... Hell, all of it's great! That said, the chords for the verse are somewhat suspect, as I've pretty much followed the bass. The guitar is actually playing a riff I haven't figured out yet, but the chords will work very nicely all the same. I think it sounds great anyway... :) I'll try do the bass as well, cause there's some cool walks in there. Chorus: ------ Bm Built ourselves a city A G And we made it out of mud Bm We dried it off this morning A G D Out there in the desert sun A G D And we never do no working A G D Just sit and watch TV A G F# Well, I finally found a city Bm Full of people just like me Verse: ----- G D Well we're gonna drag Bruce Springsteen F C By his axe through our streets Am Em By the time we're done The Boss F C Will look like a side of beef G D We've got plans for other wankers Bm C Who might come through our town D F Y'know we're going to rid the world C Am Of those Top-40 clowns Em F Then we're going to buy some bombs C G Just like the big boys have D So don't call us losers A Or you might just make us mad! chorus: Built ourselves a city And we propped it up with wood We were drunk when we made it Hell! We did the best we could And still we don't do no working Just sit and watch TV Well, I finally found a city Full of people just like me verse: Someone tried to build a health spa But we quickly burned it down 'Cause we don't want any healthy people Ruining our town Y'know, we used to have a K-Mart We burnt that sucker too 'Cause they wouldn't let you in Without a shirt or shoes And we never paved the roads We just got VCR's When you got the movies Hell, you don't need any cars Last Chorus: ----------- Bm Built ourselves a city A G And we called it WiseGuyVille Bm And we made a few mistakes A G D Like putting children on the pill A G D And we never do no working A G D 'Cause we got cable TV A G F# Hell, I finally found a city Bm Full of people just like me Bm A G Bm A G D A G D Someday we'll have a new land A G D From sea to shining sea A G F# Someday we'll have a country Bm Full of people just like me End on Bm. 11 - Rocketship --------------- A G# C# Ro - cket Ship (x3) F# G# I'm going on a trip F# Far away G# Bb I am leaving today G# F# I am leaving today A G# C# Ro - cket ship (x2) A My bags are packed G# C# I'm ready to go A G# (no C# ending) I'm ready to go-o (no chords) Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one Liftoff F# G# Goin' to Planet X F# G# There's a girl on Planet X Bb I don't know her G# But that's alright F# She don't know me either A G# C# Ro - cket ship (x2) Solo with A G# C# F# G# I'm goin' on a trip F# Far away G# Bb I am leaving today G# F# I am leaving today A G# C# Ro - cket ship (x4) End on C#. 12 - Nitro Burning Funny Cars ----------------------------- No one will ever tab a song called Nitro Burning Funny Cars... ---------------------------------------------------------------- Intro/Verse Riff: ---------------- F# E-----------2-------------- B-----------2-------------- G-----------3-------------- D-----------4----....------ A-----------4-------------- E--0-0-1-2--2-------------- I haven't shown timing here, except for the 0-0-1-2 bit, just listen to the song for the strumming pattern. There's some weird sound effects in there as well. Sunday is gloomy My hours are slumberless Dearest the shadows Are living and numberless Little white flowers Will never awaken you Not where the black coach Of sorrow has taken you Angels have no thought Of ever returning you Would they be angry If I thought of joining you? Death is no dream In death I'm caressing you And with my last breath I will be blessing you - God, I hate poetry - No art! The only reason I hadn't put it up is because I wanted to get the solo done first, but I kept getting stuck on certain bits of it. I've got most of it now, I think... At least enough to get you through the song. Thanks a lot to Jeff for his tab that kept me going for a while, but I thought I might have a shot at making it more complete. The verse is basically the same, but loses the open chords, and I think sounds better with bar chords. It still has the G, then the high G similar to Jeff's tab. The chorus also has a couple extra chords in there. Intro/Verse: ----------- Basically it's just important to get the G-highG effect. You can do it any way: the way shown or actual higher G chords, such as (xx5787) or even (x10-12-12-12-10).
