Hello I am John Morrisett, and I am a Detectorist, I love to go out and get dirty with the hopes of finding treasure. I label myself lucky, since I had the opportunity to live in the United Kingdom for some time, I had the chance to find treasures that probably other detectorists only dream about. The history there is phenominal, and I had that chance to discover things that were lost eons ago, not something that you can brag about in the States, which is why I was so sad when I had to come back.
I got my assignment for England several years ago and when I got there I was overwhelmed with the history, and I wanted to know more about it. A friend of mine at work was talking one day about Metal Detecting and it caught my interest, so he took me under his wing and showed me the ropes.
Well, that August, I went back to the States to go to a school in Ohio and I stopped by a Detector Shop and picked up a Boutny Hunter. Awesome machine, until it got wet on a drizzly day, so I traded that one in for a Tesoro Laser B-1 Hi Power, my favorite machine to this day. I found so much stuff with that machine, and since it was manufactured for the U.K. I had no problems with the drizzly weather. Unfortunately, one day I left it in the backseat of my car and my wife stepped on it. When I went to get it fixed, it would have cost me a lot of cash, so I traded that in. My next machine was a, Garrett Freedom Ace Plus. Mistake!!! It wasn't really a bad machine, but it didn't have the power of my Laser, that machine lasted about a month and I traded it in for my current machine, A Whites Eagle II SL, good machine, but like I said it just can't compare with my laser. My future plans are, to purchase the Whites Classic III when I get the money, until then I will continue with the Eagle.
That's the history of my machines, now a little about me. I come from Oklahoma, and I joined the Air Force in 1991. I love to detect in freshly plowed fields and sometimes in the grass, this year I intend to do a little beach hunting. Enough boring you, so I will let you get back to your surfing.
See you on the fields.
John
