| Since April '75 I've been a major "Starsky & Hutch" fan. I live in Cedar Falls, Iowa, population 38,000(with some mostly harmless weirdoes around the college campus). It's home to the University of Northern Iowa (UNI), which is known nationwide for academics and athletics. I spent most of my childhood in the '70s, so I love the era. The movies & TV shows were great, but the new cars were dull, slow, and boring towards the end of the era. The clothes were really cool(far out and solid, man!), unlike most of the '80s and especially '90s junk(Earth Shoes were great). People were more caring then and as a whole wouldn't sell you out for a dollar. If you were bullied, you took care of it yourself by other means than shooting up the school. Although drug use was starting to be glorified by Hollywood and the media, dopeheads were considered bad news(but we did listen to Cheech & Chong records and read the "Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers", so we weren't saints), but they influenced styles. Jobs were plentiful, but with Nixon's price & wage controls (to try and control rising inflation) plus Ford/Carter ineptitude, things tanked by the late '70s and the groovy times came to an end. There will never be another "70s". Peace and love, man. |
