Students in DMSAA grades 6 - 8 meet for one class period each school day.  AA is an Exceptional Student Education Enrichment class for intellectually gifted children.There are currently 43 students enrolled , with an average of 15 per class period.   Classes meet by grade level and are served by by a teacher who is endorsed in Gifted Education. Gifted is now an exploratory class.
     Activities include role-playing units, writing and classroom publishing of chapter books, poems and short stories;  re-enactments, hands-on mathematics, science fair involvement, literature studies, drama and art appreciation.  Cultural studies and social skills training  are     included in the curriculum, as are organizational skills and creativity enhancement techniques. Field trips are taken and involvement in school-based extracurricular activities is encouraged. 
     An IQ score of 130 or higher is required for entrance into the program, as is a teacher checklist of characteristics.  Referral is made by parent or teacher, and is handled through the guidance department of the school.  Interested parties should contact the guidance department for further information.
