ST. PAUL OF THE CROSS
BACK TO GUIDE
BACK TO SAINTS
Paul Daceo, founder of the Passionists, was born in Italy in 1694. As a young man, he left his rich merchant father to take care of the sick and poor. Later he led disciples into solitude for a life of prayer and penance.
Given directive by
the Sorrowful Mother Mary, he gathered together a band of men who would give themselves to living and preaching the Passion of Jesus Christ.
Called the "Hunter of Souls"
He died in 1775, and a few years later was canonized a saint.
Communities of Passionist men and women, inspired with his dedication to Christ Crucified, are throughout the world today.
Prayer to St Paul of the cross
O good St. Paul of the Cross, you revealed the wonders of God's power by proclaiming the Passion of God's only Son.
By your words and mighty deeds, you became a spiritual guide and preacher of the gospel to a world grown cold to the love of Jesus Christ.
Turn our hearts and minds to the merciful cross of Jesus. Help us to perservere in faith and love, and assist us in every need.
By sharing the Passion of Jesus in this life, may we come to share in the glory he has promised. Amen
