| Our Mother's Promise to St. Simon on July 16, 1251 said that Whoever dies clothed in this (scapular) shall not suffer eternal fire" |
| The Scapular, then should take on deep meaning. It is a rich present brought down from Heaven by OUR MOTHER. She says to each soul, "It is My garment. To be clothed in it means you are continually thinking of Me, and I in turn, am always thinking of you and helphing you to secure eternal life." |
| A true devotion to Mary CONSISTS of 3 THINGS * Veneration * Confidence * Love Our Lord taught us to pray the "Our Father" Mary taught us the value of this Scapular. When we use it as a prayer, by wearing it, Our Lady draws us to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It is well, therefore, to hold the Scapular in the hand while addressing Our Lady. A prayer to Our Mother uttered while holding the scapular is as perfect as a prayer can be. |
| It is especially important during times of Temptation that we need powerful intercession. The devil is powerless against it's strength. |
| Morning Prayer O my God, in union with the Immaculate Heart of Mary (kiss the Scapular) I offer Thee the Precious Blood of Jesus from all the altars throughout the world, joining with It the offering of my every thought, word and action of this day. O my Jesus, I desire today to gain every indulgence and merit I can and I offer them together with myself, to Mary Immaculate, that she may best apply them in the interests of Thy most Sacred Heart. Precious Blood of Jesus, have mercy on us! |
| Pope Benedict XV granted an indulgence of 500 days each time the Scapular is kissed. Mary's Motherhood is not limited to Catholics, it is extended to ALL MEN. Many miracles of conversion have been wrought in favor of good non-Catholics who have been induced to practice the Scapular devotion. However, this is NOT dogma but widely accepted. |
| The most common scapular, is the brown scapular of the Carmelite's. It was given to St. Simon, a Carmelite monk in 1251. |
| To be eligible for the Secular Promise, one most be enrolled in the family of Carmel. |

| The Green Scapular Ten years after the manifestation of the Miraculous Medal to Sr. Catherine Labourre in 1830, the Blessed Mother entrusted the Green Scapular of the Immaculate Heart to Sr Justine Bisqueyburu, likewise a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul How to use was through the instuctions of the Virgin Mary. Simply a double image attached to a single clothand suspended from a cord. It should be blessed by a priest. It may be worn, placed on a bed, or simply in a room. The only inscription on the cloth is "Immaculate Heart, pray for us now and at the hour of our death" |
