When we become Confirmed we are annointed with the Holy Spirit to continue Jesus' work.
A bishop performs the ceremony.
Anointing with chism -
Laying of hands -
Also known as Chrismation for the conferal of Sanctifying grace and the strengthing of th eunion between individual sould and God.
The roots of confirmation are found in the Acts of the Apostles. "Now the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent them Peter and John, who went down and prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit, for it had not  yet fallen upon any of them; they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on them and they received the holy spirit."
Confirmation like Baptism can only be received once.
Gives us a special strength of the Holy Spirit to spread and defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ, to confess the name of Christ boldl, and never be ashamed of the Cross.
Described as making a confirmed person "a soldier of Chirst".
