Son of George W. Morris & Eliza Jane Jarvis, born in Logan county, Ohio. He worked on the great lakes steamships for a while traveling all over the great lakes.He married ????? and had one daughter, Cecile, who was actually raised by Sam's parents.His first wife died young. He met Mary while the steamship he was on, was in the port city of Chicago where she was working.They resided, for a while in Lima, Ohio where he was employed at the Lima locomotive works as an industrial blacksmith. They moved to Benzonia Michigan around 1913 at the urging of Sam's brother Steven, where they purchased a farm in Homestead township. |

Daughter of Augustus Beck & Elizabeth Haas, born on South Manitou Island, Michigan. She lived on the island attending the one room school house until she turned 16, at which time she got on a steamship and went to Chicago, Ill. where she found employment as a launderess for the wealthy folks. While in Chicago she met and married a man named ? Blackmon and had a son (Arthur) and a daughter (Blanche...died at 11 months old)..They divorced and she married Samuel on Sep. 11, 1901 in Chicago. While Sam and Mary had the farm up in Benzonia they also lived on South Manitou Island for a number of years, running the farm of Mary's father, who was ill. |
