Spoiler Warning: "Requiem" and slight references to the "Duane Barry" myth   arc.
Rating:   G
Classification: SR
Key Words: Mulder/Scully Married
Disclaimer: Hmm, do I even need to write this? If I were Chris Carter, I would be a man. (Thank goodness I'm not) I enjoy being a woman. Furthermore, I wouldn't have to write fanfiction I could make good things happen every week. Which is something someone needs to start doing very soon, especially with all the talk about <gasp> Scully's new partner! Enough said.
Summary: "He wanted desperately to return to work along side his partner-- partner in now every sense of the word. But, he knew that Scully would do what was best for him; he possessed nothing but trust and faith in her and in her judgement, just as he always had."
Notes:   I started writing this last night, but never finished. Then, this morning, I received my copy of Entertainment Weekly. The cover was enough to depress me. I didn't even have to read the article (I eventually did   anyway). I decided that I will NOT let Chris Carter ruin the show. Here is my first attempt. I decided that I will continue my writing as if "Requiem" was the last episode of the show's run. This way, I have plenty of material   to work with, and if by chance Chris Carter is really onto something this next season, I can work with that as well. I hope you enjoy this piece as much as I loved writing it, and please, if you made it through my notes this far, let me know what you think. Feedback always makes my day! She rounded the darkened corner, afraid that the slightest creek in a floorboard would set him on guard and her advantage would be lost. He stood, not ten feet away, near the living room window looking out into the lonely, stormy night. The patter of raindrops fell into rhythm with her heartbeat as she eagerly planned out and anticipated her next move. Nature was on her side tonight, the sound of angry branches releasing their rage against the cold paneling of the building allowed her enough grace to successfully draw nearer and nearer her target. The timing was right. It was now or never. His height was her only disadvantage. Without further thought or contemplation she raised her arms and quickly but tightly wrapped her arms around her victim's neck. She held on tightly and pressed her petit body against his in order to gain a better hold. She licked her lips as she began to speak.

"I thought I told you to be in bed by the time I got back."

His hands found hers and she gently lowered her arms until they fell around his waist. She embraced him from behind not allowing him to turn and face her yet.

"I would have gone to bed but I was waiting for a certain someone to come home and tuck me in."
His voice showed no indication of surprise. It was almost as though he had sensed her presence before she made herself known.

"A certain someone?"

"Umm hmm short," she poked his side, he smiled. "The most perfect shade of red hair; it's Titian, I think. Blue eyes, crystal clear blue eyes. I can see my soul through them." She smiled against the back of his neck and kissed him sweetly. "She smells nice too."

"Thank you."

"Usually she likes to cuddle with me. I sure hope she shows up soon, I'm getting sleepy."

"Oh," she smiled inhaling his sent through the smooth texture of his tee shirt. "I don't think you'll have to wait too much longer."

"I won't?" He turned to face her and as he did his expression fell but his eyes remained full of humor. Smugly he deadpanned, "oh, its you."

"Mulder." Scully was amused but tried to appear angry. "You better believe it's me."

"Gee Scully, I didn't expect you home for another hour or so. I dont know what to say." He tried to appear panicked but his face betrayed his true emotions.

"Don't say anything. I'll leave you be so you may continue to wait for your 'certain someone'." Her voice held an undercurrent of humor. Knowing full well that he would understand her words, she unwrapped herself from her hold on Fox Mulder's body and turned gracefully leaving him alone at the widow while she made her way to their bedroom.

Mulder smiled, thoroughly enjoying their exchange. Playing with his wife was always fun. He decided to let her wonder a few moments longer before he gave in and followed her. He turned around once again and faced the window admiring the raging storm outside. Rain, it seemed, was always a source of comfort to him. However, ever since his marriage and the news of his wife's miracle pregnancy, sunshine was not as repulsive as it had been in years past. In fact, at times he enjoyed the brightness and liveliness of a   beautiful sunny day. It matched the way he felt internally. He hoped to become as comfortable with sunshine as he was with rainfall. The feeling would come, but only in time and only with the help of his beautiful wife and new son or daughter. Rain was a constant and was always a comfort. 360 degree changes were few and hard to come by but this was a change he wanted to make.

He smiled as he re-played the scene from just a moment earlier. Scully had been called into a meeting just as she was about to head home from work. Assistant Director Skinner wanted to discuss her feelings on the down-time Mulder was permitted to recuperate before he began work again after his "disappearance". They all knew what really happened; Skinner knew what he saw in the night sky right after Mulder went missing. Yet, his abduction was not to be called anything other than a "disappearance". She phoned her husband and informed him that she wouldn't be able to make it home in time   for the quiet dinner they had planned before she left for work that morning. She told him she would be late and had instructed firmly that he should not wait up for her and that he'd better be in bed when she returned. Scully knew he wouldn't listen and didn't really expect him to, but she had to try. He was still not quite himself which was to be expected. After all, he had "disappeared" for three months. However, unlike Scully, he had a perfect recollection of the tests and events that occurred during that time. Which   was largely the reason Scully pulled for a reasonable leave of absence. Physically, again unlike her, he returned with little damage. Emotionally he was still trying hard to come to terms with all that he saw, all that he now understood. Life as he knew it would never be quite the same. He wanted desperately to return to work along side his partner-- partner in now every sense of the word. But, he knew that Scully would do what was best for him; he possessed nothing but trust and faith in her and in her judgement, just as he always had.
As these thoughts mulled through his subconscious mind he hadn't realized just how long he remained standing there, in front of the window, until he felt his wife's warm arms encircle his waist once more. He smiled in utmost contentment.
"Come to bed?"
Before he turned in her arms to chastely kiss her moistened lips he glanced once more at the wet and cold world out side the window's glass and wished with all his being that the morning would bring sunshine and not clouds.
