Fortress V - Ready Room
A large table
and holographic monitors fill the ready room of the Fortress V, a place for
Repliforces to get together and plan their next moves. The holographic
projectors can fill the room with any needed image, the inducers buried in the
center of the table, which is surrounded by large, comfortable chairs, a huge
one at the far end big enough for General himself. There are windows here,
pointed back and out the ship's rear windows, but these can be closed in order
to have a clearer view of any needed holograms.

[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Dr. Cossack: You say,
"Is this line secure on your end?"
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Dr. Cossack says, "It
is. Good evenink, Storm Owl. Has Doctor Light callink you yet?"
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Dr. Cossack: You say,
"Good evening. No, doctor, he hasn't."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Dr. Cossack says, "All
vight, let me find him."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Dr. Cossack: You say,
"Thank you."
[Radio: (D) Joint-Chat] Dr. Light transmits, "Hello,
Storm. Where do you want to meet?"
[Radio: (D) Joint-Chat] Storm Owl transmits, "You are
welcome to visit the Fortress V."
[Radio: (D) Joint-Chat] Storm Owl transmits, "Or, given
its current situation, if you would prefer another site, that is
acceptable."
[Radio: (D) Joint-Chat] Dr. Light transmits, "Of
course. I'll be there."
[Radio: (D) Joint-Chat] Storm Owl transmits, "We'll
have an escort on standby."
Dr. Light arrives from the Bridge.
Dr. Light has arrived.
Prismatic Spider arrives from the Bridge.
Prismatic Spider has arrived.
Shield Shellfish arrives from the Bridge.
Shield Shellfish has arrived.
Dash arrives from the Bridge.
Dash has arrived.
As always, the Repliforce officers will be most cordial to
Dr. Light. A lot of saluting and yes sir/no sirs being thrown about. But behind
the usual respect is a hint of worry and accusation. The trip to from the
transporters to the ready room is actually somewhat of an adventure.
"Watch your step, sir," one of the troopers will have to say as they
have to sidestep a deep pit in one of the main corridors caused by the ship
ripping along the ground. "The turbolift may take a minute, sir. The
computer's been malfunctioning off and on ever since the attack." The
hallways themselves are slightly slanted. Just enough to barely notice it, due
to the ship resting unevenly on the ground. "It's good you're not visiting
during high tide, sir. We still get some flooding in some areas. We were lucky
to land this high out of the water as it was."
Given the
ship's bad condition, one might wonder why Storm Owl offered to hold the
meeting here. But on the other hand, perhaps it makes perfect sense. Storm Owl
is in the ready room, sitting at one end of the long table. The holographic
monitors are currerntly off.
Prismatic Spider is chilling in the Ready Room with Storm
Owl, his expression anticipatory and pleasant as he sips at a cup of coffee.
"I'm sure it'll work out well." He's probably just saying that just
to be optimistic. Or maybe he's just happy to have a chance to actually talk to
Doctor Light again.
More out of curiousity then anything else, Desert has
actually managed to find her way to the ready room. She has this... feeling.
This forboding feeling that there's going to be all these commander types there
and she'll be the small fish in a lake full of sharks. Its a wierd feeling. As
she slips in she notes Storm... then the Doctor.. then Prismatic. She figures
her hunch was right. Now she actually wonders if she'll be allowed to sit in.
Dash isn't so much bound by a great deal of the Repliforce
formality; as a STARS officer, he's as respectful ashe is naturally (quite a
bit) and as formal as a police officer needs to be (not very). Stepping out
into the Ready Room for a chance to at least see -- and perhaps obtain the
autograph of -- Doctor Light is a certain blue special agent, cracks a quick
salute to the Reploids he passes as he stands near the door.
Dr. Light arrives with his 'escourt', openly rolling his
eyes this time. Light is better than he was at the concert, especialy with Roll
being alive confirmed, but that doesn't mean he's back to himself. He still
looks tired, freyed, beat...
Unstable.
And the
deadly candor he spoke to Dr. Wily this afternoon with indicates that the jolly
shield is worn out for a while. "Was the honor guard really nessicary,
Storm Owl?" Light says, managing a smile at the other Repliforcers.
Shield Shellfish is standing off to Storm Owl's right, and
also to his left, and also at the entrance to the Ready Room. The Shellfish is
taking no chances with Dr. Light's visit, which could be interpreted in any
number of ways. Given the state of the Fortress V, however, perhaps it isn't
too out of the question.
Desert's
entrance is marked by a brief scan from the Shellfish on the left, searching
for holographic signatures or other tricks that can be detected by a routine
search. The same treatment is given to Dr. Light, with little more than a nod
of recognition for the man who saved her life.
Storm Owl stands respectfully as Dr. Light makes his entry.
"My apologies, doctor. My intention was not to make you uncomfortable. At
any rate, welcome to the Fortress V." Storm Owl extends his hand to shake.
If he notices the rolling of eyes he does not mention it. "We've been
pleased to hear about Roll's recovery." Storm Owl glances briefly at
Prismatic. Owl's more in the know about his discussion with Cossack, but Prism's
the superior officer. Maybe they'll have to tag team it, with Desert and Dash
helping. "Please, have a seat. Is there anything you need?" Once
Light takes a seat (or declines to take a seat), and once Dash and Desert take
seats if they are so inclined to do so, Owl sits down. He is in cordial mode,
not wanting to upset a frayed Dr. Light. Prismatic can start the real questions
off.
Dash straightens himself out a little bit for the sake of
the guest of honor, taking slow steps forward before sitting himself down in
the indicated seat. He might not be much for formality, but he senses that this
is one of those moments when he's supposed to be quiet and stern looking.
Desert Dolphin takes her seat last, looking a little
nervous, but still she has a smile across her features. ... OMG ITS DOC LIGHT.
That's her thoughts at the moment.
Dr. Light resists rolling his eyes, since Storm seems to be
making an effort. He does give his old diplomatic nemsis a 'cut the crap' look,
however, sitting down. "Thank you." Light says, sincerely. "Roll
said to thank the Repliforcers for all the cards and flowers, but that the
fellah who sent the box of chocolates as big as her needed to...what was the
way she said it..."Put that energy towards something more constructive than
me!"." Light does not attempt the girlish modesty giggle, but does
smile at this. He loves his little girl.
Light nods
at Prismatic then, waiting to get down to busniess. "You look better,
Prismatic. Hello Shield Shellfish, Dash." Smile!
Prismatic Spider smiles brightly as Doctor Light arrives,
and gives a wave as he stands. "Good to see you here, Doctor Light! Sorry
that we're not really up to our usual spic-and-span, everyone is working on
cleaning up and catching up." He gestures to a table nearby. "We've
set out refreshments, please help yourself to whatever you like before we
begin." He looks at the others as well, indicating that the invitation
extends to them too. He takes his seat then, and nods to the Doctor. "I'm
sure you've already been talking with Doctor Cossack about the recent meeting
with Storm Owl, and as such, we wanted to discuss the remaining issues
involving Protoman."
Prismatic's
expression becomes one of someone who's performing a distasteful duty. "I
understand that times have been extremely trying for you, which is why we
wanted to offer Repliforce assistance in making sure he is well protected and
ensuring that his current problem is resolved, so that the issue of the desire
of the United Nations and other entities to put him on trial can be
addressed."
Dash has disconnected.
Storm Owl is glad Prismatic's here for this. Owl and Light
have a lot of baggage which could potentially get in the way of resolving this
situation. As usual Prismatic seems to be at the top of his game. The war bird
rests his hand and gun hand on the table's surface. "I shall do
that," he tells Dr. Light about the big Roll fan in Repliforce. Maybe he
didn't get the joke... if it /was/ a joke. Realizing Light probably doesn't
know the fifth Repliforcer here, Storm Owl introduces. "Dr. Light, this is
Corporal Desert Dolphin." Other than this, Owl is quiet.
Dr. Light proves to be himself. This does not make him any
less by Shield Shellfish's standards. In fact, it makes him moreso. The
bodyguard effaces herself, maintaining four seperate presences in the room,
standing guard over the meeting; expressionless as ever. If she has any
opinions on the Protoman Situation, she keeps them to herself.
Dr. Light
nods at the Corporal. "Pleased to meet you."
His
attention returns to Prismatic Spider. Its not a pleasent thing-Light is
thinking in overdrive, considering options, translating legalese, and quietly
noting accounts that will have to be altered to accomidate for recent changes
in the world power structure. The difference is that Light doesn't have the
energy to distract a portion of his mind with a crossword puzzle, a word game,
or something else to keep him happy, so a hundred percent of his focus is on
the situation. Its a different experence.
"Assistance,
eh? And what are the perticulars of this...offer?" Light asks. "And I
didn't know you guys were still working for the UN, Prismatic." He can't
resist adding. He generaly looks like a dissapointed parent, finding out his
kid is smoking pot -again- after they agreed that last time was the last time.
Desert Dolphin nods quickly toward the doctor, brightening a
bit as a result of the greeting, "Ah, nice meeting you too, sir!" she
replies before going rather quiet to listen in for the rest. Desert... looks a
little thoughtful at the same thing. She could remember the decomissioning even
if she wasn't in the RF for it.
He knew he shouldn't have left the Medbay today... Prismatic
blinks. "We're not, actually. Force of habit in addition to our inherent
tendencies to enforce what law we can. We're just not the only people
interested in Protoman's current status. But enough of that..." Prismatic
picks up his coffee cup and takes a sip, before continuing.
"Repliforce is fully prepared to assist in security efforts to make
sure Protoman is kept safe and secure, as well as our medical assistance, while
certainly not the same as that exhibited by Doctors Cain, Cossack, and
yourself, may possibly be able to assist in his unfortunate condition. Simply
put: We wish to put him on trial, but I'm certainly not going to drag a sick
man to the kind of proceedings he's probably going to undergo. As such, we want
to help with his problems before asking for his presence in court, and also
wish to know if you will be willing to allow us to help."
Storm Owl is once again glad Prismatic is here. Good thing
he was forced to leave the medbay today! Either way, Owl is very impressed with
Prismatic's diplomacy. Owl tends to get along better with Cossack for some
reason. Either way, the war bird doesn't have anything to add just yet.
Shield Shellfish lurks.
Desert Dolphin doesn't have a clue what she -could- add.
Dr. Light frowns. Prismatic is going the extra mile, and he
should respect that, and reject his first...four impulses. Light breathes in,
and out.
"The offer is appreciated, Prismatic Spider, but I
think Repliforce would be better served by worrying about the world, rather
than my son. My intention is to treat him like any other Hunter that has gone
Rogue. He will be tried, and if he is allowed to stay with the organization,
forced to earn back his previous level of equipment and freedom. If the Hunter
leadership decides on the other options..." Light trails off. "I'm
not giving his schematics to my enemies, Prismatic Spider. They hide in the
legal system you're blindly trusting here. Thanks, but worry about stopping
Sigma from carving Australia up like a Christmas goose instead."
Shield Shellfish has disconnected.
[Radio: (A) RF-Chat] Prismatic Spider transmits, "I
would have expected him to say that."
[Radio: (A) RF-Chat] Prismatic Spider transmits, "I
would say the same in his place."
[Radio: (A) RF-Chat] Prismatic Spider transmits, "Any
suggestions, Storm? I don't think pressing the issue is going to get us any
farther. It's rather obvious what his opinion is."
Desert Dolphin winces a little. She can... only imagine how
he likely feels. Protoman had been around so long.. he'd done a lot of things
that were good.. but more often then not in the world bad things are remembered
far longer then the good. "Well for what its worth, Doctor..?" she
pauses, "I'm sure something will work itself out..."
[Radio: (A) RF-Chat] Storm Owl transmits, "I feel I
need to state the facts on what would happen if what is clearly his hope comes
to pass."
[Radio: (A) RF-Chat] Storm Owl struggled to say that in a
way that wouldn't reveal top secret stuff. Struggled!
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Prismatic Spider says,
"Can you think of any way to do this that won't jeopardize our already
tenuous relationship?"
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Prismatic Spider: You say,
"I will attempt to be as diplomatic as possible, however sugar coating the
results would not seem to gain us anything."
Storm Owl interjects real quick here, "When you say
'tried', do you mean tried by the Hunters, or by The Hague?"
"The Hunters." Light says, crossing his arms.
"Frankly, the Hague lost all right to say a word to my family when they
took away my citizenship and tried to make me put Rock and Roll in deep freeze
for the rest of their lives." Light's a little bitter.
Desert Dolphin winces some at that. Deep freeze? Forever?
She actually shivers at the thought.
Prismatic Spider sighs, and steeplefingers. "And I
would say the same in your place, Doctor Light. We still intend as we always
have to serve the world, but it cannot be denied that Protoman's actions have
had an effect on that world. If he was expelled from your organization without
his equipment, he would probably be shortly arrested thereafter anyway, Doctor.
We didn't ask for his schematics, nor did I demand that they would be turned
over. Protoman is a unique person, and should remain that way."
His
expression goes distant for a moment as he thinks back to the revelation of the
hundreds of Dynamo clones in that Black SHIELD base, and mostly suppresses a
shudder at thr thought of someone doing the same with Protoman. "We will
stop Sigma, but at the same time, I don't see the world and especially not your
enemies resting if they don't see a trial of Protoman. He was already on the
United Nations' Most Wanted list, I'm sure you've imagined the kinds of things
that people will spread if they find out Protoman is in custody and not given a
trial that the people would concievably find unbiased. We don't wish you or the
Hunters any harm, Doctor Light, I am simply mentioning likely possibilities by
those enemies that still wait out there. He would have to be tried publicly and
in such a way that people wouldn't be able to accuse it of bias, which would
undoubtedly happen if it remained internal to the Hunters." He raises a
hand in a calming gesture.
"Now, if
you think otherwise, that is fine. I am simply trying to find a way for
everyone's interests in this situation to be satisfied."
Dr. Light stands up, leaning on his cane.
He looks like he's going to say something for about a
second, before Dr. Light shakes his hands in disgust, turning around and
walking away. He'll continue towards the exit unless stopped.
Desert Dolphin blinks at that, surprised to say the very
least. It makes her squirm a little bit, nervous.
Storm Owl leans forward, looking a bit disappointed. He
clasps his hand and cannon together. "I feel I must state what would
happen if Protoman were to return to the Maverick Hunters without allowing any
of his victims put him on trial or make him responsible for his crimes. I say
this not as a threat, but as my honest prediction as to what would
happen."
"Commander Spider is correct - the people of the world will not
tolerate Protoman going without being tried in a court of law. The American
government, United Nations, and other governments would make a formal request
that he be turned over. If you denied it, the Americans would begin seizing
Hunter assets and freezing Maverick Hunter corporate accounts. Your patents
would likely be forfeit. Repliforce would be asked to pursue the matter - and
we would obey the request."
At this
point, as Dr. Light is getting up to leave, Storm Owl frowns. "Doctor...
the nineteen soldiers killed had families as well. Jonathan Boone is survived
by a daughter. I beg you to consider their feelings as well in this
matter."
Prismatic Spider stands, raising a hand towards Doctor
Light. "Doctor Light! I know he's your son, but no matter how much you
love him... He has to be held accountable for his actions. Taking away his guns
and armor and busting him back down to the bottom... Do you really think that
would be enough? The world would look at it like he was put into a glorified
time-out box! It's not even about us, Doctor. I'm trying to think of a way we
can make this work without you losing your son."
Storm Owl stands as well, holding out his hand. He isn't too
hopeful, but there's always a chance.
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Prismatic Spider says,
"Damn it, I hate having to be the bad man sometimes."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Prismatic Spider: You say,
"It is required."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Prismatic Spider says,
"I know, but that doesn't mean I have to like it."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Prismatic Spider: You say,
"Indeed."
Dr. Light pauses, turning around slowly. He's speaking in
measured, even tones, and generaly giving off a 'Shield Shellfish was right
about being nervous' aura. "Are you using the dead famlies of your
soldiers to guilt trip me into selling him to Black SHIELD, little man?"
Light's fists are white, and his eyes are full of wrath.
"Are you -threatening- me after what I just had to do? I constructed a
machine that took a living soul and shoved it in a damn mobius loop between
dimentions...forever! I made a little piece of hell! Do you really think I give
a damn about what the law tells me to do? It wasn't there during San
Angelas...they LAUGHED at me when I tried to warn them, and then they tried to
kill what children I had left afterwards! The law has done nothing but hurt and
persecute me and mine, you will-less -stooges-, and its done the same to you!
Repliforce is so eager to have a leash again, you aren't looking at who's
holding the damn thing!"
Light
smiles, grimly, letting out a tightly held breath. "Chances are, the
A-Classes are going to vote to shoot Proto Man in the back of the head, and he
won't be your problem anymore. This conversation is pointless." Light
looks up again, fire in his eyes....and, just as quickly, the rant dies, Light
slumping back down. "Cossack, too. I can never...go to hell. The lot of
you. I'm not even in charge anymore. I'm finished here." Light resumes
walking.
Desert Dolphin blinks at that, wanting to say... something,
but there's nothing she can really come up with to even say. It .. kinda hurts
when the father of robotics tells you you can go to hell, you know? Its enough
to make the reploid glance down and away, losing the smile that was there for
95 percent of the meeting.
Storm Owl was of course using the families of the dead
soldiers to guilt Dr. Light. But more than that, he -was- serious. Owl believes
each of those nineteen were just as important as Protoman is. He stands
silently as Dr. Light vents at them. He doesn't bother arguing any of the
points. He can only hope that the Light is right about what the A-Class Hunters
vote to do. He doesn't want to have to begin overtly working against the
Maverick Hunters over one mech. Storm Owl meets Dr. Light's eyes of wrath with
his own beady optics. Once done, and Dr. Light continues for the door, the war
bird calmly, but definitely disappointedly, says into the intercom,
"Corporal, please assist Dr. Light to the transporters." That's going
to be a lousy job for the Corporal.
Prismatic Spider stands there, weathering the tempest of
wrath unleashed by the years of hell the Father of Robotics has gone through,
finally apparently stretched to its breaking point here. It's like having God
come down and personally yell at some Catholic that he's been a complete
jackass. It's all he can do to stay standing as Light catalogues the affronts
to him and his, the failures and loss of trust that brought them to this point.
Finally, as Doctor Light turns and leaves, Prismatic collapses back into his
chair, his head held in a hand. He quietly asks, making no attempt to stop him
this time. "Will it be anarchy, then? Where do we balance family with
society? Honor with duty? Where do we look to find an order we can live
with?"
"I don't care anymore." Dr. Light manages, holding
back...something. "The only reason I'm still in this war is because I
swore I wouldn't rest until Wily's behind bars. If you want to fly back into
their breasts, fine. You..."
"...couldn't
even leave me a friend, could you." Light slumps, and makes his way to the
elevator. Ka-gone.
It takes a few moments, but it also takes that long for
Desert to remember that A) she's the only Corporal in the room and that B) Owl
was likely ordering her as a result. A simple nod is given as she slowly rises
and starts to make her way over toward the doors, likely to just follow. She
doesn't really feel like saying a word. Its a lot like Prismatic figured.
Though for her, its more like a very respected elder just came down on a kid
for .. well she doesn't even know what she did.
Dr. Light enters the Bridge.
Dr. Light has left.
[Radio: (A) RF-Chat] Desert Dolphin transmits, "... I
.. i'll be in my room. sirs.."
Desert Dolphin enters the Bridge.
Desert Dolphin has left.
[Radio: (A) RF-Chat] Storm Owl transmits,
"Understood."
Storm Owl looks over to Prism, "I am not sure if that
could have gone worse."
Prismatic Spider continues to sit there, unmoving. "On
the contrary. I don't think there was any way it could have gone better. We
were asking a father to throw his son to the wolves. So what do we do now,
Storm? Are we to declare war on the Hunters should the nations ask it of
us?"
Storm Owl sits back down, thinking about it. "If the
nations ask it of us? I don't see how we cannot. Our options would be severely
limited. Dr. Light may have been right about one thing, though. The A-Class
Hunters may make the correct decision and opt to have Protoman stand trial for
his crimes. Surely Dr. Cossack is on our side, at least. I wonder if we should
be trying to see Megaman and Zero's opinion on the matter."
Prismatic Spider sighs. "We've already possibly
alienated Doctor Light, do we really need to move on to the rest of the
Hunters?"
"No, I suppose not," Storm Owl replies. "In
the meantime I suppose we wait. I'm sure it is only a matter of time before the
civilian governments begin making their own demands."
Prismatic Spider says, "We do have one advantage... if
I remember correctly, the governments don't know Protoman is in custody yet. If
they think he's still at large, we're not going to get forced into the decision
yet."
Storm Owl hesitates, "They will likely already know by
now. My investigation report included several world leaders." The war bird
shrugs slightly. It may have been the right decision; it may have been the
wrong one, but he adds, "They have the right to know. We can't withhold
such information from them."
Prismatic Spider finally raises his head from his hand where
it rested to look over at Storm Owl, the CC lines on the report dawning in the
back of his mind. "Well, we're hosed then, unless we figure out a way to
get out of the obvious sequence of events. You know Repliforce's capabilities
right now probably even better than I do, and I'm fairly sure we can't handle
adding yet another major enemy to our list. We just don't have enough
power."
Storm Owl leans forward in the slighest of amounts,
"The Hunters were hit harder than we. If it came to it, Commander, I
believe we would destroy them. We have many allies. They do not. However I do
not believe it will come to it. Most Hunters will not side with Dr. Light on
this matter." Pause. "I hope."
"The Hunters were hit harder, but they have more power
concentrated into smaller areas, are masters of small-unit tactics, and have
Doctors Light, Cain, and Pavel 'I Build Weapons Of Mass Destruction For Fun'
Cossack." Prismatic shakes his head. "We'd exhaust each other. The
Hunters would cripple our infrastructure while we slowly hunt down and bite
pieces out of them, and then the Mavericks and Robot Masters, who barely had to
lift a finger in the Ra Moon situation, would clean up what's left. The world
would be doomed."
Storm Owl nods, "Very possible, sir. Again, I believe
our best hope is ensuring that the Hunters do not side with Dr. Light on this
matter. Dr. Cossack /wants/ to turn Protoman over to us. He said most Hunters
are angry at Protoman and do not want him back."
Prismatic twitches. "And how do you propose to firmly
turn the entire Hunter organization against the man who created them? You know
Rock will probably side with Light, and he has immense influence." He
leans back in his chair. "There are limits to what I'll do, Storm Owl.
That's why I'm in Repliforce. We're supposed to be the good guys. So are the
Hunters, even if they are vigilantes. Why the hell is this happening?"
You say, "You really wish to know why?"
Prismatic Spider says, "I'm fairly sure I'm not going
to like it, but I'm not being paid to like it. Let's hear it."
"Many Hunters, and Dr. Light is the worst of them, do
not care about those they are sworn to protect," Storm Owl says in a calm
and quiet voice. "Hear me out on this. Some Hunters look at the average
citizen and do not think much of their worth. So when they hear that a
citizen... two citizens... nineteen citizens... a /hundred/ citizens, however
many... it does not register very heavily for them. But when -one- of their
-own- gets... harmed. Then they care.&quoot;
"When
Protoman kills nineteen soldiers, murders two innocent humans in cold blood,
very nearly destroys the Fortress V, causes the death of hundreds in Able City
and Giga City, not to mention the countless others that will die because we,
the Repliforce, are too wounded to protect them, it barely registers in Dr.
Light's mind. This is... a minor crime."
Owl's voice
is calm throughout. "But when someone harms Roll. However tragic it may
be, the Hunters will consider this far worse than the death of countless others
- all of whom have the same right to lifee as that one individual. All of whom
had their own families that will miss them."
"They
put their own lives and the lives of their group so far ahead of that of the
common man that when they have to make a decision to protect one of their own -
in this case Protoman, a murderer - versus save countless lives of people they
do not know - all of them innocent - then some of them will choose the one over
the many."
"And
that is what is happening here. Dr. Light has to choose between the hundreds
Protoman has killed and the thousands he could kill later... and one
individual. But because that one is known to him... he will choose the one, and
to hell with the rest."
[Radio: (E) Joint-Secure] Dr. Light ahem. "If anyone's
still on."
[Radio: (E) Joint-Secure] Storm Owl has just finished a
Hunter rant. "Yes, doctor?"
[Radio: (E) Joint-Secure] Dr. Light transmits, "I
figured this problem out. Watch the news tomorrow, we're all going to be
okay."
[Radio: (E) Joint-Secure] Prismatic Spider transmits,
"I am, Doctor."
[Radio: (E) Joint-Secure] Storm Owl transmits, "I am
pleased to hear it, doctor."
[Radio: (E) Joint-Secure] Prismatic Spider transmits,
"That's good. Thank you."
[Radio: (E) Joint-Secure] Dr. Light long pause.
"...sorry for flipping out. I got frustrated."
[Radio: (E) Joint-Secure] Storm Owl transmits, "It is
understandable."
[Radio: (E) Joint-Secure] Prismatic Spider transmits,
"Of course, Doctor. No man should have to make the choices you're being
faced with. I simply look forward to an equitable ending to this problem."
Prismatic Spider nods, listening to Storm Owl's Hunter Rant.
It makes sense when one considers Storm Owl's beliefs to have been observably
the exact opposite. "Indeed. And as I said, it's a choice no man should
have to make. We'll see how this turns out, sitting here in black rumination
isn't going to solve our problems. At least now I have Engineering focusing on
fixing the Fortress V again."
Prismatic
stands, limbs creaking. He feels like he's aged a couple decaded in a few
minutes. "I'm going to get back to work. I'll see you, Storm Owl."
Storm Owl nods, "Of course." He stands out of
respect for Prismatic and fires off one of his perfect salutes. "Be sure
not to overwork yourself, sir," he says. Given /Owl/ is saying that, he
must really be worried. "I'll be available to assist with any repairs or
other duties on your word."
Prismatic Spider gives a self-depreciating smile, and
returns the salute. "Don't worry, Storm. I'll make sure to go on rest
breaks when I'm scheduled. I'll call you if I need you." Go go Nurse Owl
action! Prismatic then heads out. At least there's a glimmer of light in the
darkness now.

POTUS On Protoman Wed Jun 07
Leo
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To Repliforce command:
Doctor Light has shown us persuasive evidence that Blues
"Protoman" Light was forcibly mind-controlled by Ra Moon. As per
standing statute in the United States, androids or Reploids who are controlled
against their will by software alterations by a hostile other cannot be held
accountable for their actions legally.
Further, at 12:01 PM Washington time today, I have signed a
pardon for Blues' previous crimes, completely expunging his criminal record.
The White House will inform the public of the pardon this afternoon, as well as
issuing a public commendation for the Maverick Hunters as a group for their
actions in insuring the safety of the world during the most recent crisis.
I request that Repliforce stand down in regards to the
Maverick Hunters.

Odd Orders! Wed Jun 07 Rush Raccoon
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Tac Squad that was on standby was suddenly disbanded!
Aswell, a new notice appears.
"As of Right now, any orders to Hunt, to find, to
otherwise capture Protoman are to be considered dissovled."
"I will tell you why. We have gotten a letter from
President Sears. it HAS been proven by Dr. Light, with evidence, that Protoman
was influenced by Ra Moon. In the Mind Control sense. Due to UN laws, a android
under mind control cannot be held accountable for his actions."
"So Goes life. As it is said. you will not, and I
repeat. WILL NOT STRAIN RELATIONS WITH THE HUNTERS BY PRESSING ON DR. LIGHT AND
OR OTHERWISE BOMBARDING HIM WITH LEGALESE AND THREATS AND OTHER KIND OF
//FOOLISHNESS//. The first person to even press this matter with the Hunters
will be filed for an automatic demotion. Don't let me hear you have."
"Major Raccoon, Out."

Title: Re: Tac Squad
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Storm Owl has
put the tactical squad back on alert. No explanation.
==============================================================================
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Rush Raccoon says, "Lt.
Colonel...... please do not tell me you are attempting to press this
issue?"
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Rush Raccoon: You say,
"Classified."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Dr. Cossack: You say,
"Is this line secure on your end?"
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Dr. Cossack says,
"Yes."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Dr. Cossack: You say,
"Lets meet. We have a lot to discuss."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Dr. Cossack says, "It
is currently politically untenable for me to see you, Storm Owl. I can speak
here."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Dr. Cossack: You say,
"I assume you have seen the official memorandum sent to us from the Oval
Office."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Dr. Cossack says, "Yes,
vee haff been in zee loop. Zee immediate fire has been extinguished."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Dr. Cossack: You say,
"Postponed would be more accurate. Datum: Neither you nor Dr. Light spoke
of this evidence last night, mere hours before Dr. Light could have shown this
evidence. Datum: Dr. Light has not seen fit to show us, Repliforce, this
so-called evidence. Datum: President Seers has dropped all charges and even
issued pardons, all based on... one classified meeting? No public
investigation? Hypothesis: This new-found evidence is fraudulent."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Dr. Cossack says, "I
cannot disproff nor verify ziss hypothesis. I lack zee advanced knowledge in AI
zhat Doctor Light possesses. I imagine zhat only Doppler, Wily or Cain could
possibly know for sure, and perhaps not even zey."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Dr. Cossack: You say,
"I will be eagerly awaiting Dr. Cain's report on the matter. Either way,
this evidence will be made public, I assume, for scrutiny. I'm sure Berkana
would love to get her hands on it. As it is, President Seers is going off the
word of the one man alive with the largest conflict of interest in this matter?
You cannot tell me that this is all on the up and up."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Dr. Cossack says, "I
cannot tell you it is not, eizzer. Zee meetink between Doctor Light and zee
President vas not vun I vas privy to."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Dr. Cossack: You say,
"What does your gut instinct tell you, then?"
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Dr. Cossack says, "My
gut tells me zhat it is in zee interest of zee American government zhat vee not
obliterate each ozzer vhile zee Mavericks haff air supremacy and arr targetink
a major ally. I imagine zee President would accept any rationale he could to
make ziss particular problem softened so zhat zee vest of zee verld does not
suffer for zee loff of vun man."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Dr. Cossack: You say,
"Except that the world will suffer for the love of one man. What happens
the next time Protoman decides to destroy all life on the planet? What if next
time Repliforce isn't able to get back up afterwards?"
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Dr. Cossack says, "I do
not know. It is beyond my power."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Dr. Cossack: You say,
"So we have two problems: 1. Protoman is a murderer and has been taught
that he can annihilate the forces of good without consequences. 2. The /rest/
of the world may not be so willing to fold under the pressure of Dr.
Light."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Dr. Cossack says, "Yes.
Ziss is our current situation."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Dr. Cossack: You say,
"Will Dr. Light's stated A-Class Hunter vote still be going through? Or do
the Hunters all believe in this sudden 'miracle discovery.'"
Shield Shellfish has connected.
Storm Owl actually /is/ busy this time, so doesn't have to
pretend.
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Dr. Cossack says,
"There will still be discussion of his fate. Vee need it."
Shield Shellfish bets.
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Dr. Cossack: You say,
"When will Protoman's victims get their turn to speak at this
discussion?"
Storm Owl is on the radio, see. He looks a mite distressed.
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Dr. Cossack says, "I
don't know, Storm Owl. I vould hope soon."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Dr. Cossack: You say,
"I assume you've tried to talk Dr. Light out of this course he's taken the
Hunters on?"
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Dr. Cossack says, "I
haff alveady been punished for speakink to you. I vill likely be punished again
for ziss conversation."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Dr. Cossack: Storm Owl
sounds surprised. Punished? Who the hell can punish Dr. Cossack? He's the one
that /does/ the punishing. "Dr. Light is punishing you for this?"
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Dr. Cossack says, "In a
way. It is complex. I am ... in a difficult place. Ethically."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Dr. Cossack: You say,
"Your loyalty to your friend challenged by your loyalty to... I'm not sure
what the appropriate word would be... justice? What's right? The safety of the
planet?"
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Dr. Cossack says, "Zee
laws of God and man."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Dr. Cossack: You say,
"I don't understand."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Dr. Cossack says, "Zeir
is vight and zeir is vronk. Zees arr t'inks which transcend us as
mortals."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Dr. Cossack: You say,
"Letting a murderer go loose so he can murder again via lying, regardless
of how it may hurt countless of other innocent individuals, is not right."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Dr. Cossack says, "I
cannot proff or disproff zee claim."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Dr. Cossack: You say,
"No, I suppose only Dr. Light knows for 100%. He will be revealing the
evidence I assume for others to look at. I have great faith in Dr. Cain and
Berkana's abilities."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Dr. Cossack: You say,
"Are you still there, doctor?"
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Dr. Cossack says,
"...yes, I am sorry. Lonk few days."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Dr. Cossack: You say,
"Not a problem."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Dr. Cossack: You say,
"I do have another question. What is Protoman's opinion of all this?"
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Dr. Cossack says, "I
haffen't spoken to him."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Dr. Cossack: Storm Owl
already knows the answer to this one before he asks. "May I?"
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Dr. Cossack says,
"You're goink to haff to go t'rough Light."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Dr. Cossack: You say,
"Thank you for your suggestion. I shall take you up on it. Thank you for
your time, doctor. Please do not work yourself to exhaustion."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Dr. Cossack says, "I
vill not. Good luck."
*** LATER ***
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Prismatic Spider: You say,
"I do not believe the President's message to us could have been any more
suspicious."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Prismatic Spider says,
"Oh? Let me see..."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Prismatic Spider says,
"... Well well now. How convienent."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Prismatic Spider says,
"Still, I'm not planning on arguing with the President. We're not in a
position to force the Protoman issue right now."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Prismatic Spider: You say,
"I have spoken with Dr. Cossack since getting this letter. It was...
unnerving."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Prismatic Spider says,
"What happened?"
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Prismatic Spider: You say,
"He said he does not have proof one way or another on Dr. Light's
convenient proof. He says the only ones likely able to determine its validity
would be Dr. Wily, Dr. Cain, or Dr. Doppler. I asked if the evidence would be
made public, but he did not know. He was not privy to this discussion between
Dr. Light and the President. I asked him for his gut instinct, and he said he
believes the American government caved in out a desire not to push the issue.
He believes Seers would have accepted almost -any- excuse Dr. Light threw at
him. Dr. Cossack also said that he was being punished for talking with me
earlier, and likely would be punished again for talking to me this time. He
would not elaborate."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission: Prismatic Spider says,
"So it's about what I expected. This is... extremely irritating."
[Radio] Tightbeam transmission to Prismatic Spider: You say,
"Yes. Though Cossack did indicate that the Hunters would still have to
meet to talk about this. I am hoping that they will not be stupid enough to
take Light at his word."
*** LATER, REGARDING THE LETTER THE PRESIDENT SENT ***
[Radio: (A) RF-Chat] Singularity Shrike yawns, "...news
news..."
[Radio: (A) RF-Chat] Rush Raccoon transmits,
"Yes."
[Radio: (A) RF-Chat] Singularity Shrike transmits,
"...you have /got/ to be f***ing kidding me."
[Radio: (A) RF-Chat] Rush Raccoon transmits, "Yes,
Lieuteant?"
[Radio: (A) RF-Chat] Singularity Shrike transmits,
"Same rant, new day, sir."
[Radio: (A) RF-Chat] Rush Raccoon transmits, "which
is?"
[Radio: (A) RF-Chat] Singularity Shrike sums it up in one
word. "Blues."
[Radio: (A) RF-Chat] Storm Owl is glad some troopers are able to read between the lines. "Indeed."
