| Here is some info about my chickens. I have 25 right now and that's just a little bit compared to what we had before!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) I love 'em Some of them are dominickers,Rhode Island Reds, plain whites,Cornish, back and white ones that lay green eggs (i really don't know their names),and some thats mixed R.I. red and plain white. I havent named them all yet (surprisingly) but I have some. 1) Gabriel the dominicker, 2) Butterscotch the light R.I.Red, 3)Duke the kind that i have no clue of what they are, 4)Queenine the cornish hen and then some more. Most people think of chickens as worm eaters and thats true. But you should NEVER give a chicken a worm because that makes them get worms and it's hard to get rid of them. The way you can tell that a chicken has worms is if you see them yawn constantly, drink water alot, very sick acting and they dont wanna play, very weak, not around other chickens, trying to eat but they can't and not eating at all. Once I had a chicken named D.J. and she had got the worms and I tried and tried to get her to take wormer and she did but the worms had already eatin' her insides and so I started walkin back to the chicken pen and she was yelling and jumping and I was yelling really loudly and my dad came running to see what was the matter and when he got there he saw me crying 'cause my chicken had died. :( When you have hens and roosters the number one thing to do when a rooster spurs ya is NEVER STAND THERE AND KEEP LETTING HIM SPUR YA that'll only make him think that your afraid and he'll keep doing that to ya. What you do if a rooster starts to aim at you and then finally spurs ya kick at him. Keep kicking at him then eventually he'll back off and stop. If you dont well sorry you just end up with blood and tore-up legs. (Belive me I know it doesn't really feel too good) There is absoultly NOTHING different about white eggs or brown eggs. They taste the same but the only thing different about them is they have different colors. You shouldn't have more than 1 rooster in a pen full of hens because all the roosters will be fighting and soon they will end up killing themselves over the hens. You really only need one rooster at a time, the other roosters you can either sell them or ring their necks (eat 'em) Make sure when you first get the chicks you have them under a flood light or any chick light that's warm enough. When they are ready to go into a regular pen you should make it good enough so that chicken hawks or foxes or dogs, etc. wont get them. You will have to go to the next page to see my chickens. |
