HSTE Course Information and Sequencing

Course Information:

25.4210002      HSTE I:  Foundations of Allied Health Care
                            Require by state as a prerequisite to all other HSTE courses.
                            Students must take this course first.

25.4220002      HSTE II:  Basic Allied Health Care Skills
                            Required locally as a prerequisite to advanced HSTE courses.
                            This may be waived by the HSTE teacher if student is a rising Jr. or Sr. with exceptional
                            academic/professional skills.

25.4610002      Certified Nursing Assisting
                            Required by HSTE program as a prerequisite to HSTE III "Internship" program.
                            Student must have successfully completed CNA certification prior to entry into either paid or unpaid
                            internship through HSTE III.
                            CNA class is required by the state to be one Carnegie unit.  Therefore, certification will not be available to
                            students until the end of the academic year.
                            Usually taken in the Jr. year.  May be taken in the Sr. year, but Sr. CNA students may not participate in the
                            HSTE III internship.

25.4910002      Applications of Medical Terminology in Health Care Systems
                           Co-offered with the internship program, but students may elect to take the course only, without the
                            internship.
                            All students in the internship program must take this course concurrently with the internship.

25.4230002      Internship
                            Students must have successfully completed HSTE I, HSTE II (or waiver), CNA (and hold CNA
                            certification) prior to enrolling in the Internship Program.
                            Students must take Applications of Medical Terminology in Health Care Systems course along with the
                            Internship Program.
