Richard Gilbert
Richard Gilbert was born on Sunday August 22, 1999. This is a day he shares with my parents, as it is also their wedding anniversary. In fact, I told my parents that I would not be giving them any more anniversary gifts since I would never be able to top this one.

That morning I was actually at a local park taking part in an Amtgard camping event. I had not been asleep for long when my son woke me up letting me know he was on his way. In between the contractions I got dressed and crawled out of my tent. I sat around with friends for maybe another hour before I figured it was time to go.
I got to the hospital and tried to call Richards father. When I got no answer at home I called his mother and father. Trying to have a phone conversation in the middle of a contraction is no easy feat let me tell ya. Grandpa went and woke dad up and got him to the hospital in time to see his son enter the world.

Have ya ever noticed that some children arrive into the world when you are most looking forward to something? In this case, Richard was born on the same day as a big WWE PPV event. Of course, his father made it home in time to see it. At least I got to see the video. I dont mind that I missed the show all that much to be honest, I had my son and that was so much better to me.

Richard and I went home together, unfortunately he returned to the hospital within a couple of weeks with a condition known as RSP (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) infection. The symptoms are that of a common cold but in babies it can be fatal. Luckily, Richard recovered and was released from the hospital with in a week.

He moved in with his paternal grandparents due to the situation his father and I were in. Eventually it was decided that it was in Richards best interest to be adopted by them due to various extenuating circumstances. We get to spend time together whenever I can get down to San Antonio, TX to see him.

At the age of four he is doing very well. He is bright, happy and healthy.
