About Me
Skippy, my very first horse,
with me on his 33rd birthday
Hi, My name is Debby Sweet & I am the trainer/instructor here at Short N Sweet Ranch.

I have been training horses for over 25 years and teaching people how to ride & relate to their horses for almost as long!  I discovered that it really does no lasting good to "train"  only the horses...the people who love & work with these horses need to understand what I do & be able to duplicate my training, or else everything slowly goes back to the way it was!  For this reason, I prefer owners to work with me in training their horses.
Perhaps the most exciting part of training horses (for me) is seeing other people achieving the same respect & obedience from their horse as I get.  Making a change in horses and people's lives is what keeps me in this business.

Thanks for listening to me ramble on....hopefully we will meet sometime soon.

Everyone who comes in contact with a horse is training it!  They can either train the horse things we want it to learn or they can train the horse to do things we don't want it to learn!  One of my main goals is to teach owners/handlers/riders to consistantly promote "good" behaviour in their horses.

My love for horses started as early as I can remember.  I didn't get my first horse until I was 11 years old...he was just 18 months & I received a "crash" course in horse training over the next 5 years!   Trial & error in the "School of Hard Knocks" was my introduction into horse training.  I survived it & developed an overpowering desire to learn all I could about horses & how to influence their behaviour.

A turning point in my life was meeting Pat Parelli.  He was just starting to give clinics at the time & the information he gave me then & has continued to share with me over the last 20 years has been invaluable to me! (Thank you Pat!).  I have also studied (books and/or live clinics), Ray Hunt, Margarart Dorrence, John Lyons, Sally Swift, Dennis Reis & Mark Rashid.  All of these people are wonderful with horses & I have benefited greatly from their instruction & words of wisdom.

I am a small woman . .  5'2", so I needed methods that would enable me to communicate with horses...I am certainly in no position to "muscle" them around!  I treat horses with love, kindness & respect for them as horses.   In return, my horse students show me respect & love & obedience.
