AVIEMORE, SCOTLAND
Date: 10/03/00
No Of Days: 3
Destination: Aviemore, Caringorn
Transport: Coach (12 hours)
It was an umplanned trip really, Bolt-Eyes decided that the trip to Soldeu wasn't enough this year so in March he planned a mini holiday. Me (Dan Brown), Lloyd (my cousin) and bolt-eyes jim brown went on this holiday. We got a coach from London to Scotland which took 12 hours (very tiring) and I sat next to Lloyd with the smell of his egg and bacon sandwiches which he decided he didn't want and put them in the bag on the side of our seat. The journey was a long one and with much farting and laughter we were finally there. The first thing we noticed was that there wasn't gonna be much snow at all, a dissapointment. We stayed at a small bed and breakfast for 2 nites, 3 days skiing.
The first morning we got our skiing stuff ready and went to the slopes. Or should I say slope, only one slope was open which was quite a long one but the snow conditions were very poor. At first I couldn't master the T bar lifts, this was annoying as Jim Brown and Lloyd could do it no problem, then some ski instructor women helped me out and I made it. Me and Lloyd thought it would be funny to both try and go up the T bar together which was hillarious as we both ended up on our arses with the T bar still pulling us up on our backs, the lift operator was going mad but me and lloyd just laughed. The best slope at caringorn was prob an off piste one which me and Lloyd discovered. Someone had built an 8 foot jump which provided many of our photos on the Scotland section. After a hard day on the slopes Jim Brown found us a nice hotel which offered a swim supper offer which was you got to swim and use the saunas and then have a meal at a cheap price which was very good. The next night we planned to go out and try the pubs, that was untill we went to a fish and chip shop and got bloody food poisoning. We were all so ill. There was LLoyd being sick in the shower and me diareahing in the toilet, it was bad.
SLOPES
2 OUT OF 10
We were unucky with the snow when we went (we all know what the UK is like for snow!) so I will have to give it a low mark but Bolt Eyes has been before when the snow was plentiful and he said it was great. The off-piste bit was ok but the snow was kinda hard and bit icy. Not bad for a bit of fun but for pro's this would have really sucked. I hired a Soloman board which was real cool and easy to ride, lucky I didn't have my own board because parts of the off piste were actually uncovered and the rocks were scratching at the boards.
APRES SKI
3 OUT OF 10
We didn't really get much of a chance to check out everything Scotland had to offer after the slopes. It only had a couple of bars, no nightclubs and of course being in the UK the atmosphere was pretty crap and the drinks were expensive. The swimming pool was good and the restaurants wern't bad (apart from the fish and chip shop).
GENERAL ATMOSPHERE
4 OUT OF 10
The general atmosphere in Aviemore was not bad at all. The people were friendly on the slopes, me and Lloyd met a mad snowboarder who was friendly (see his pics on the scotland section). In the evenings the atmosphere was a bit dull as no-one really parties in Aviemore, it certainly isn't the same as other countries (Andorra, France)
