MassBowling Skills Progression
One-Step Delivery
The one-step approach consists of swinging the ball as described in the previous step. However, a step is added to simulate the end position of the traditional four step approach.
Position the bowler 1 steps from the foul line. The extra half step is for the slide that will occur when wearing bowling shoes on an actual approach.  The stagger of the feet will be less than in the no-step delivery (about 2-5 inches back). The set-up position of the ball will be similar to the no-step with push away.  To deliver the ball, the bowler will push the ball out waist high as before allowing the ball to easily swing backward. As the ball reaches the top of the back swing and begins forward, the step is taken with their opposite side foot.
As the step is taken, the ball side foot will move over and behind the bowler as shown in the diagram below. The arm will follow through to approximately head high. The bowler should be able to hold this balanced position until the ball hits the pins. Inability to hold this position indicates that they were not balanced and/or threw the ball with arm strength rather than letting the ball swing freely.
The One-Step Delivery method is the last skill taught to MassBowling students as MassBowling players are in a stationary position behind the lines on a basketball court and the pace of the game is usually very fast and requires quick movements. If you are teaching 10 Pin Bowling in the gymnasium, then you will benefit from the final section of this progression of skills - Four Step Approach.
