MassBowling Skills Progression
One-Handed Delivery, No Steps, No Push Away

Once bowlers are able to hold the ball with one hand and have shown a preference for one or the other (becoming right- or left-handed), you can help them learn the fundamentals of rolling the ball with one hand.  A right-handed bowler should place the left foot one dot to the left of the center dot. A left-handed bowler should place his or her right foot one dot to the right of the center dot. The opposite foot should be well behind the bowler (6 to 18 inches back) where he or she is balanced. He or she should bend the knees slightly and lean slightly forward. The ball is held by the side with the thumb pointing toward the pins as shown below. Another way of looking at the hand position is that the thumb points at 12 oclock on a clock face.
To deliver the ball, the bowler should give the ball a slight push out, let the ball swing back easily and then swing forward before releasing toward the center arrow as shown below. Make sure there is only one swing since multiple swings may cause the ball to start swinging sideways.
