Before you read this comic, I thought a bit of an introduction was necessary. This is the first full length comic book I have created, and it is a 24 Hour Comic. What is that, you say? Well, the 24 Hour Comic was invented by the author of the book "Understanding Comics," and a sequential art expert Scott McCloud. Here is the description in his own words:
"To create a complete 24 page comic book in 24 continuous hours. That means Everything: story, finished art, lettering, colors (If you want 'em), paste up, everything! Once the pen hits paper, the clock starts ticking. 24 hours later, the pen lifts off the paper, never to descend again. Even proofreading has to occur in the 24 hour period."
So after one day of my life, a case of Dr Pepper, a couple of bags of various gummy candies, and 24 pages later, this comic was created. Heroville was originally created as a comic strip, as also seen on this site. I thought it would make the smoothest transition to the sequential comics page.
Creating a 24 Hour Comic is as much an ordeal as a Rite of Passage. It is a feat of mental endurance, and a test of one's creative strength of will, due to it's impromtu nature. I highly reccomend tackling this kind of project for anyone who is serious about making comics. You learn quickly about what your abilities and weaknesses are, and learn to exploit them. In the end, you are a better, more well rounded creator for it. |
