There is a nice program called 'GNU stow'. It's extremely useful if you don't want do go thru all those manuals for the packaging systems for all available platforms. By default GNU stow using relative path to it's repository. And it was inconvenient for me. So you can grab this patch here:

XFCE is another nice and extremely useful tool. Unfortunately several programs (namely Netscape Calendar) does not like resources '*Foreground' and '*Background'. If you're experiencing strange unexpected crashes and you do have 'Apply color to all application' enabled, you may wish to turn it off and check your favorite application again. If it will work it probably needs something like 'YOUAPPNAME*Foreground'. (Note: patch for Netscape Calendar is already a part of the XFCE source code.)

Attention:This page may not contain the latest patch for XFCE (at the time of writing /Dec 8, 2001/ it's XFCE 3.8.12b), please visit my ads-free site for the latest patches

For those who don't like "power" button on the xfce panel introduced in XFCE 3.8.7: apply this patch and you will get old-good-stylish "EXIT" button: Exit. Use this patch for XFCE 3.8.8b (note: it also will remove dependency for xscreensaver, if you will build rpm).

Almost the same patch for XFCE 3.8.9 (good for XFCE 3.8.10 too), except few things: fixed the problem with xflock script (it does not assume anymore that you're keeping xautolock utility in i$HOME/bin) and, as an extra bonus, it completely removes the code responsible for the annoying unredable blinking LEDs clock

Hint: do you know that you can drag and drop items (hyperlinks from Netscape browser for example) to the buttons on the XFCE panel? Thus if you will create a button which will start 'Term screen wget -t 0' you'll get robust downloader for free! Just drag a link to this button and eventually you will get desired file in your home dir! So say 'farewell' to the programs like 'Downloader For X' & Co. -- you don't need them anymore.

Just keep in mind the basic rule of the *nix world: there are no things which you can not do -- you simply don't know how to do it in a proper way. Another rule is: if it's inconvenient for you -- you're doing it in a wrong way.

Famous xcode utility. It's pretty ugly but still useful. :)
