Yes, I know, bz2 files are missing. I'm sorry, this is Yahoo! problem, they don't like bz2 for some reason.
I'm glad that the code derived from this project is a part of the KDE2 project.
P. P. P. S. Well, now you can grab binaries for Red Hat 6.2 Not tested yet!
P. P. S. Hmm, it's better to make "news" section instead of increasing number of PSs. :) Anyway, somehow I managed to upgrade my box up to Red Hat 6.1. Now KMatrix runs under RH6.1.
P. S. Which is always goes before main text. :)
I think that this port is better that the one included in KDE 1.1.2
(by Eric Plante). At least because my port has 3 parameters to configure
and Eric's port only one -- scrolling speed. Second reason, I reduced
glyphs size and for me it's looks closer to "The Matrix" movie.
Ok, first of all I don't like matrix concept from "The Matrix" movie too much. For me the matrix from William Gibson's stories is much better. Why? Don't know. Maybe because I'm too lazy to jump between two skyscrapers (even in virtual reality). :)
Nevermind. Here is KMatrix -- port of Jamie Zawinski <jwzATjwzDOTorg> xmatrix, part of his excellent program xscreensaver. It looks like... So, here goes configuration dialog:
OK, here you can grab diff for kdebase-1.1.2. Screensaver will be available as kmatrix-d.kss.
You can grab ELF executable compiled for RedHat 6.x. Obviously you must do chmod a+x kmatrix.kss before putting it somewhere in you PATH. You may also wish to hack kcmdisplayrc file as described below.
Just added $(QTDIR) reference. Remeber that you must have qt1x-1.44-4.i386.rpm and qt1x-devel-1.44-4.i386.rpm installed! Note that "default" library now have version qt-2.0.1.
Please note: This program is not finished yet. I mean it's
not integrated into KDE sources tree, so there is no autoconfiguration at all.
It will compiles only under Red Hat Linux 6.0!
Actually things are not
so bad. Add/Remove few defines in Makefile and you'll get it. :) I
think KDE 1.1.1 and GNU make will be enough for you platform.
Maybe I'm wrong. Tell me.
And eventually you can grab source code here:
Un-tar it, look into Makefiles, type "make" and (I hope) you'll get
kmatrix.kss. Put it somewhere in your PATH (probably it will be good idea
to put it into $KDEDIR/bin). Then tell kcmdisplay that we have one more
screensaver now: add line
kmatrix.kss[C]=The Matrix
into file $HOME/.kde/share/config/kcmdisplayrc. (You have to do this
only if you have KDE 1.1.1 or earlier. If you have KDE 1.1.2 and want to replace
Eric's screensaver with this one simply copy kmatrix.kss over existing file)
And one more thing. It's called "screensaver" but it's really CPU hungry program. You've been warned!
