RECOMMENDED READING
Here is a list of books, comics, TV shows , music and movies I am interested in and why I recommend you check them out.

Books:

Shaun Micallef:
-Smithereens.
Small but beautifully formed pieces of Shaun Micallef. Thats what the cover says anyway. This is a collection of wacky stories by Mr Micallef about anything and anyone.

From 'The Al Jolson Story'.
You ain't heard nothin' yet.

Assuring an audience that they have not as yet heard the absence of something is hardly revelatory, and the implication that they would, upon commencement of some singing, hear nothing would have merely bamboozled them was it not so expertly masked by poor grammar. This, then, was Jolson's true skill as a performer.

Isaac Asimov:
-The Steel Caves.
A sci fi murder mystery. It was written a really long time ago but its still a really fun book. The movie I, Robot got some insperation from this book too. There are two sequals, The Naked Sun and The Robots of Dawn.

Michael Moorecock:
-Hawkmoon.
Fantasy, set in a future that has digresed back to the middle ages. This is a series of shorter books, kind of like chapters that tell one story. The easiest way to read it is to find the collected version.

-
Corum. Fantasy. Again, a series of books that combine to tell one story, kind of like a mini series. There is a sequal.

-
Elric. Fantasy. Start with Elric of Melnibone. This tells the first story of Elric. There are many subsequent books, all worth reading. A comic has just come out telling the story of how Elrik grew into the man you read about in the books. Written by Moorecock and drawn by Walt Simonson.

Comics:

Savage Dragon: Super Hero. One of the most entertaining books being sold today. There are plenty of collected editions to make it easier for you to jump on.

Green Lantern: Super Hero. Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis. Nuff said...

Youngblood: Genesis: Super Hero. Ever wanted to know how youngblood was formed? Check out this 2 issue mini series and find out. Script by Kurt Busiek, written by Brandon Thomas with art by Chad and Eric Walker.

Exiles: Super Hero, Mutant. Lots of writers including Judd Winick. If you like alternate realities you'll love this book.

Appleseed: Sci Fi. Masamune Shirow. One of the best know Japanese comic creators. And with good reason. He also created Ghost in the Shell and Dominion: Tank Police.

Wildc.a.t.s: Super Hero. The original mini series was one of the best comics to ever come out of Image comics. Jim Lee and friends.

Blueflyer, Guardians of Justice, Razorback, Blackwing and SeaDragon. Cult Fiction Comics Australia. Super Hero and Dark Fantasy. All these comics are on CDC, thats CD Comic. Which means the comic is in PDF format. You scroll down rather than turn the page. And you get extras like wallpapers, sketches and pinups every issue! Unfortunately at the moment they are only available in Australia.

I'll have a link to were you can buy them online soon. Still working on that. If you can't wait check out our myspace page.

TV:

Stargate: SG1: Sci Fi. In my opinion the best show on television. Now in it's 10th season.

Stargate: Atlantis: Sci Fi. The spin off series. Equaly as good as SG!.

Black Books: Comedy. Great British humour.

Red Dwarf: Comedy. Great British humour.

Black Adder: Comedy. Great British humour.

Monty Python: Comedy. Great British humour. Hmm, I see a pattern here...

NCIS: Crime, Military. One of the best miltary, murder mystery shows around. The only?

Numb3rs: Crime drama.

Star Trek: Sci Fi. All of them.

Babylon 5: Sci Fi.

Crusade: Sci Fi.

House: Medical

Movies:

National Treasure: Adventure. This is a great movie. Think Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider, but the hero, Nicolas Cage, is not so gung ho.

Star Wars: Sci Fi. Adventure. All of them, but especialy the originals.

Galaxy Quest: Sci Fi. Comedy. Adventure. A spoof on Star Trek by Trekies. Very accessable to those unfamiliar with Star Trek.

Spider-Man 2: Super Hero. Action. Adventure. Romance. Etc. So much better than the original, and that rocked! Gets a bit too soppy at times but thay make up for it with a spectacular story and amazing action.

X-Men 2: Super Hero. Action. Adventure. Team. Again with a sequal that out does the original.

Dude where's My car: Comedy. Heh...

Appleseed: Sci Fi. 3DCG. Anime. Based on the epic Manga (pronounced monga) by Shirow.

Elf: Comedy, Will Ferrell.

Music:

Led Leppelin: Rock.etc.The grandfathers of metal. I would not class them as metal myself, but you can see were AC/DC and others got a lot of inspiration.

The Beatles: Pop. Rock. Legends. Nuff said...

Grinspoon: Heavy Rock. Australia's best rock band ever.

Creedence: Country Rock.

Everclear: Rock.

Cake: Alternate pop rock. Something like that anyway.

The Who: ROCK ON!
