SYNOPSIS
Three sailors on a 24-hour pass -- Gabey, Chip, and Ozzie -- decide to soak up the sights and sounds of New York.  Each one finds romance within those 24 hours: Gabey with aspiring dancer Ivy Smith, Chip with lady cabbie Hildy Esterhazt, and Ozzie with anthropology student Calire de Loon.  That's all, right?  Well....Ivy passes herself off as a celebrity, but she's actually a kootch dancer in Coney Island, Claire and the boys inadvertently topple a dinosaur replica at the Museam, and Hildy breaks any number of speeding laws attempting to get the lovers toether and straigten out all misunderstandings.

The original Broadway production of
On the Town opened on December 28, 1944, at the Adelphi Theater.  The show was directed by George Abbott and choreographed y Jerome Robbins. On the Town was based upon a concept from Jerome Robbins' ballet, Fancy Free.  The original cast starred Cris Alexander as Chip, Adolph Green as Ozzie, John Battles as Gabey, Nancy Walker as Hildy, and Betty Comden as Claire de Loon.  The production racked up a long run, for that time, of 462 performances.  In 1998 the Broadway Revival of On the Town opened on November 22, 1998, at the Gershwin Theater. This production was directed by George C. Wolfe and choreographed by Keith Young.  The scenery was designed by Adrianne Lobel, the costumes by Paul Tazewell, the lighting by Paul Gallo, and the sound by Jon Weston.  This revival originated in the summer of 1997, through a Public Theater production at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park.  The Broadway production starred Lea Delana as Hildy, Jesse Tyler Ferguson as Chip, Robert Montano as Ozzie, Sarah Knowlington as Claire de Loon, Tai Jimenez as Ivy, and Perry Laylon Ojeda as Gabey.  It featured Mark Testa as Madame Dilly and Jonathan Freeman as Pitkin W. Bridgework.  This production of On the Town closed, due to slow ticket sales, on January 17, 1999, after a run of only 65 performances.
