Below is the original picture of a zebra riding a motorcycle (and the tiger wants to hitch a ride, have lunch, or whatever). File size is a 148k .gif.
I then used the Gif Works site to limit the picture to 43 colors I was able to shrink it down to 117k
I then used the Gif Works site to limit the picture to 22 colors I was able to shrink it down to 84k but as you can tell the color is really faded.
So the picture looks acceptable at 43 colors but that's about as small as the file can be and still look decent. I attempted the color optimization tools but that actually made the picture file larger...
