Our main home is in San Francisco. There is a lot that can be said about San Francisco and most of it is true. It's one of the most beautiful cities in the world and we are privileged to be able to live here.
Our 2nd home is in Fort Bragg, about a 3 hour drive north of San Francisco on the California coast. It's 8 miles north of Mendocino, CA, a pretty famous artsy tourist spot that was the locale for the "Murder She Wrote" TV series.
Fort Bragg is an old lumber town (pop. ~7,000) that is going through some major changes. For 100 years the main provider of jobs was the Georgia Pacific Lumber Mill. The mill closed about 5 years ago and the main source of revenue now is tourism and eventual Bay Area/Silicon Valley retirees like us. It is a beautiful area with a very narrow band of weather extremes; 65 in the summer, 45 in the winter. When the rest of California is baking in triple-degree heat, the Mendocino coast is nice and cool.
