January 2004 |
Christmas for us was a little different this year - we returned from Thailand on Christmas Eve where we had met David's parents for vacation together. It was a very good time! Ben painted a Christmas tree for us complete with a train running around its base. After a Cambodian-style breakfast at a local restaurant, the boys dug into the presents brought all the way from the US. We topped off the morning with a birthday cake for Jesus! David started as OMF team physician in December. Medical practice is a little different in Cambodia; When was the last time you de-wormed yourself? wouldnt come up in a typical US conversation. Work on the clinic in Champus Keak is progressing its been exciting to watch! And were discussing our specific roles at the clinic with its leadership. One idea may be to incorporate a community health education evangelism (CHE) component. But we are so new to this whole process! As it nears completion, pray for wisdom and direction as to how the clinic can help meet the long-term needs of the community. Ben and Jon are thoroughly enjoying their grandparents visit. Bens getting lots of attention, Jons constantly having his picture taken, and were getting poochy stomachs from eating so often. Were enjoying every minute! Although itll be hard when Grandpa and G.G. leave, we plan to see them again when we return to South Carolina and the DC area this summer for Davids medical boards. Wishing you all a 2004 full of our Lord's richest blessings, David, Lara, Benjamin and Jonathan |
| Cops & Robbers Khmer-Style I remember playing cops and robbers as a kid wed chase each other around, have a shootout, and throw each other in jail. But its a far cry from the cops and robbers game of Cambodia. Here the kids who are cops stop the other kids and say, Pay me $5 and Ill let you go! Dont cross this line or you have to give me a dollar Having been stopped several times, we attest to the accuracy of this game. So you ask who the robbers are? Perhaps Ill leave that conclusion to you |
