The results came in I did pass my boards. Thanks to your prayers, weve been blessed settling into ministry at Bethel Christian Church here in Phnom Penh. Ben started back at school last month with great enthusiasm from all of us! And the Khmer language playgroup began again with a couple new faces. So it looks like were back into our routine here one that seems to change each week! The boys are as active as ever. Jon still desperately wants to go with Ben to school. Hes started telling us as we drive by Bens school that its Jons school, too! Unfortunately for him, its one more year before he can attend. We brought a 12 foot pool back with us from the US and have since set it up on our roof. The neighbors think were a bit crazy, but weve enticed several kids to try it out and its been quite a hit. So when you visit, dont walk too close to the house or youll get splashed! Bethel Christian Church is a gathering of about twelve adults and twenty children meeting in the home of Pastor Pann and his wife, Jerm. Pann is Cambodian-American. He returned to Cambodia in the early 90s to share his Christian faith with his country. Weve been impressed by his heart to reach out both with the truth of the Gospel as well as practically helping his community. Weve tried to find places to become involved. So as an extension of the church, Laras been coaching soccer at a local school. And David will start teaching English. David still hasnt had the courage to preach in Khmer, but we hope to grow more involved as our time and language allow. Work has been going well. David started at World Vision in August in a maternal health project. Its been a good learning experience in community development strategies and has certainly helped with learning Khmer. Laras role in Cambodia Trust will shift some during October to December to fill the need for an anatomy/physiology teacher at the Cambodian School of Prosthetics and Orthotics. Again this presents unique opportunities as she interacts with students from countries such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, E. Timor and Laos. Davids been in the process of changing some of his roles due to a busy schedule. He wont be able to teach medical students this fall and is looking for a replacement to take his responsibilities as OMF team doctor. You can pray with us for wisdom in these transitions. Thank you for your prayers! David, Lara, Benjamin and Jonathan |
| Smelly Dinosaurs? Ben has entered a new phase in his likes dinosaurs! Ever since getting a book from his great-grandmother on the subject, hes been interested in the critters and their bones. But if you ask him if he wants to get one, he says he cant because theyre stink-ness (extinct). No matter how many times weve explained that the word has nothing to do with smell, hes fixated on the idea of large, smelly dinosaurs!!! |
