| The running/walking program at Factory Shoals is one of the most self-rewarding activities that our Physical Education Department offers. The program includes every child in Kindergarten - 5th grade. The students run/walk 1-2 times a week in the fall (August - November) and in the spring (March - May) for 15 minutes during their P.E. time. The minimum requirement is four laps around the field. This is approximately 8/10 of a mile. This requirement is not strictly enforced with Pre-K and kindergarten. The students are then rewarded by converting their laps into miles, and when a student reaches a designated mile marker, he/she is placed in that mile club and may purchase a t-shirt that displays that mile club. Students will also be rewarded with a "foot" for every 5 miles that they complete. At the beginning of the year every student is given a keychain to keep all of their feet on. First graders through fifth graders who do not meet the running requirement will receive 1 point off their grade. Please be assured that these expectations are reachable for every child. Your child can walk the laps to meet or exceed the requirements. However, the students who do not meet the requirements tend to think of this as "recess" instead of P.E. |
