5 Agrarian Reform beneficiaries installed in Ubay

Ubay - “You are like million sweepstakes winners”, said Mayor Eutiquio Bernales of Ubay town who congratulated the five newly installed agrarian reform beneficiaries, namely: Felix Cañas, Ernesto Timogan, Paulino Timogan, Jr, Efren Saludaga and Eugenio Tutor of the landholding owned by spouses Osbaldo and Epifania Abaiz during a simple FB (farmer-beneficiary) Installation Ceremony last June 24 held in barangay Gabi in the town of Ubay.

A team from the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) provincial office composed of Atty. Roberto Maligmat, Acting Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer I, Atty. Aida Digaum Langcamon, Delfina Cabahug, the Assistant Chief of the Operations Division, Olivia Galleto, DAR Municipal Officer in Ubay with her staff, Jasmin Olaer and Ma. Lydia Bantugan as documentor squarely faced the threats in the installation of the said farmers amidst warning from the side of the landowner. Lawyer Johnson A. Sinco disclosed that the said installation is the first in the history of the implementation of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Law in the province of Bohol under DAR Regional Administrative Case No. A-0700-27-2007 dated December 11, 2007.

The said order was given action six months later to see to it that all legal impediments will be cleared.

During the program, Mayor Bernales and Lawyer Roberto Maligmat were in unison of giving advice to the farmers to maximize the use of the land afforded to them under CARP by planting any agricultural product and never leave any space uncultivated.

Moreover, Mayor Bernales promised to give technical support on farming taking the expertise from the East West Company tapped by the Second Agrarian Reform Communities Project (ARCDP2) on vegetable production.

The mayor also said that he will help these farmers on their off-farm activities to increase income especially on his project on Native Chicken Production.

On the other hand, Ernesto Timogan who spoke in behalf of the newly installed farmers said that though he is so much apprehensive of what would happened next after the said installation, but he is thankful for CARP through the effort of DAR to own a piece of land.

Likewise, he is hopeful that their rights will be protected as they work on freely at their respective shares.

In closing, Saturnino Lusterio, Acting DAR Legal Officer in Ubay said that DAR will always be behind to protect the farmers.

Among, others who attended the said ceremony include Punong Barangay Wenefredo Cajes of Gabi, Ubay, Nestor Tenchavez, Chairman of the Barangay Agrarian Reform Council, three personnel from the Philippine National Police, farmers and some local folks in Gabi, Ubay.
